Wage:
$49,300 per year, plus benefits
Hours of Work:
Sunday to Thurs (7 am to 3 pm) OR Tues to Saturday (8 am to 4 pm)
Position Summary:

The role of the Ambassador Outreach Worker is to work with all community stakeholders within the boundaries of the Business Improvement Areas in downtown Calgary (17th Ave BIA, 4th St. BIA, Beltline BIA, Victoria Park BIA, and Chinatown BIA). In a team of two, Ambassadors will work with stakeholders to identify areas of concern, corroborate concerns and incidents, and garner positive relationships for long-term impact. This role will work directly with the vulnerable population through information sharing, resource support, or transportation. Additionally, creation of a process for ongoing open dialogue and feedback on ways to improve community safety for both the vulnerable population and neighbors will be an important aspect of this position. Finally, the teams will work towards greater efficiencies for outreach programs in the city.
Descriptions of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Foster and maintain excellent relationships with community partners and actively build community connections with the broader community
  • Engage with community and businesses on a regular basis
  • Liaise with the 5 Business Improvement Areas, advocating on behalf of Alpha House and our clients
  • Coordination, promotion and administration of community engagement sessions and meetings
  • Identify, map, track, and provide reports on community and stakeholder interactions, interests and issues, including preparing and sharing issue tracking tables
  • Assess overall community engagement issues/concerns and setup necessary meetings/sessions to address and respond to concerns
  • Work with clients on housing supports, referrals, and transports as needed
  • Act in a professional, non-judgmental and caring manner with all clients and serve as a role model
  • Maintain clients\xe2\x80\x99 confidential data, ensuring confidentiality per privacy policies and Alpha House policies and procedures
  • Provides clients with information as required
  • Treat clients with respect and dignity, interacting with them in a caring, non-judgmental manner
  • Monitors clients\' safety and well-being as needed
  • Collaborate with all programs within Alpha House

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Strong belief in harm reduction and an open accepting, compassionate and non-judgmental attitude
  • Diploma or degree in Social Sciences, Community, or Health Sciences from a public post-secondary institution
  • MUST have a current Class 5 Drivers License (non-GDL) and be prepared to obtain a Class 4 License ASAP
  • Experience in communications and Outreach work with the homeless and or those with addictions would be an asset
  • A desire to work with vulnerable individuals with addiction issues, and the ability to respect all clients and treat them with dignity
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of issues related to addictions and mental health needs
  • Comfortable in working in an environment with the risk of violence and exposure to bodily fluids
  • FOIP Certification (a link to obtain this can be sent prior to orientation)
  • Lift training (a link to obtain this can be sent prior to orientation)
  • An understanding and appreciation of the Protection of Persons in Care Act (if needed, this document can be sent prior to orientation
