Over the past few years, the University has expanded its alumni engagement efforts and is committed to maintaining this momentum by engaging alumni with the university and each other in high-value activities.
About the Role
The Alumni Relations Officer is a marketing and communications professional role within the . They support envisioning and executing AR's engagement strategy and programming, which comprises the vast majority of the content and activity needed to build alumni engagement and connections.
The Officer develops and implements marketing, communications and events plans that proactively identify opportunities, analyze challenges, seek creative solutions and measure results. The Officer ensures projects are on time and on budget, has experience with a wide range of communications and marketing tools (media, social media, publications, website, advertising, events and grassroots initiatives, etc) and is a strong writer.
This role's success in engaging and growing alumni awareness, connection and pride in their alma mater is critical to the overall success of the Alumni Relations program.
Responsibilities
Social Media & Content Creation (40%)
Develop and manage engaging, original content for MRU Alumni social media channels (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn), including graphics, short-form videos, reels, carousels, polls, and stories.
Maintain content calendars aligned with alumni initiatives and institutional priorities.
Write compelling, platform-specific copy that reflects MRU's voice and tone.
Track digital trends and adjust strategies to enhance reach and engagement.
Research, write, and edit cross-platform stories for web, email, and print.
Create multimedia content showcasing alumni achievements and MRU's impact.
Event Support & Campaigns (35%)
Plan, promote, and evaluate alumni events within assigned portfolios.
Lead integrated marketing and communications plans for alumni initiatives.
Act as the main liaison for assigned faculties, programs, and student services, advising on alumni engagement strategies.
Capture and share event content via live social media, photography, and post-event storytelling.
Contribute to university-wide campaigns that engage alumni, students, and the broader MRU community.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement (15%)
Foster relationships with alumni, affinity groups, and networks to co-create and amplify engagement opportunities.
Work collaboratively across Alumni Relations and Marketing to ensure strategic and brand alignment.
Support alumni volunteers and ambassadors in sharing their stories through MRU platforms.
Data Coordination (5%)
Ensure the timely and accurate entry of contacts, calls and procured contact and profile information about alumni individuals, community partners and organizations, etc.
Ensure the appropriate tracking of data and KPIs for assigned programming and assigned client projects, in order to evaluate project outcomes and contribute to departmental reporting.
Budget & Partnerships (5%)
Manage assigned budgets to support strategic goals.
Support corporate partnerships to generate sponsorship and enhance alumni programming.
Identify opportunities to promote and collaborate with affinity partners and corporate sponsors to enhance alumni programming. Support the execution of partnership initiatives by integrating them into alumni events, communications, and digital channels.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Three or Four Year Bachelor Degree or Equivalent
Minimum 5 years of combined experience in one or more of the following: social media, content marketing, fundraising or business development, stakeholder engagement, PR, marketing or communications
Demonstrated experience in developing and executing outstanding events
Demonstrated success in audience growth and engagement or customer acquisition and conversion
Outstanding writing, storytelling and copy-editing skills
Exceptional relationship-building skills, including working effectively with internal and external stakeholders and clients
High degree of comfort with adopting new technology platforms and project management tools
Bonus points if you have:
Experience in marketing or communications for start-ups or young businesses
Experience using customer relationship management (CRM) systems, particularly with Raiser's Edge or Blackbaud NetCommunity
HTML coding and graphic design expertise
Salary: $65,500.00 - $82,916.00
