Job Description

The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Metis, also known as the Manitoba Metis. The Red River Metis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.


The MMF seeks to fill

one full-time Agriculture Specialist

position within our

Energy, Infrastructure, and Resource Management Department (EIRM)

located at 200 Main Street in

Winnipeg, MB

. The Agriculture Specialist will be primarily responsible for advising Red River Metis agricultural producers on the implementation of new on-farm beneficial management practices (BMPs). This position will be responsible for ensuring all project deliverables including BMPs implementation is achieved.

Job Duties/Competencies:

Develop and oversee approved projects; Build relationships and communicate with MMF Citizens to expand Agriculture Programs; Coordinate work associated with the facilitation of meetings, community workshops, teleconferences, etc.; Prepare reports, briefings, and letters, for review by the Director; Facilitate Citizen involvement in project planning; Work collaboratively with industry, government, and non-government relationships; Provide any necessary documentation in relation to meetings, including follow up from corresponding departments; Research and review all relevant documents, policy, legislation, etc; Research and develop surveys and interview questions on climate concerns.

Skills and Qualifications:

Hold or be eligible for membership in the Manitoba Institute of Agrologists with a Professional Agrologist designation, and the ability to obtain the designation if successful for this position; Hold a valid Certified Crop Advisor certification (if ineligible for a P.Ag. designation); Completion of post-secondary education related to Agriculture is an asset; Experience working in or knowledge of the field of Agriculture is a strong asset; Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills; Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred; Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset; Knowledge of Red River Metis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and, Ability to frequently travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
