Summary:

The Program Assistant will demonstrate competence and dedication to the care and education of young children by providing additional support to the program to ensure that inclusion exists for all children. All aspects of the Program Assistant position will be performed while working within the framework of the vision, mission and value statements and the policies and procedures of Milestones Children's Centre, the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, the Child Care Centre Licensing Manual and How Does Learning Happen?.

:

Demonstrate an understanding of MCC Policies and Procedures and the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014. Work as part of a team and share responsibilities to provide developmentally appropriate activities in an inclusive environment for all children (Program Assistants/Support Staff are not included in ratios) Implement a variety of positive and consistent approaches towards behaviour guidance which are consistent with the policies, practices and philosophy of MCC. In hard to manage situations, determine appropriate behaviour guidance strategies and intervention through discussion with your Supervisor Provide assistance to the program to ensure the inclusion of children who require additional support Work with your co-workers and the Resource Consultant to promote the inclusion of all children Demonstrate a strong commitment to the position through attendance, punctuality and enthusiasm for work.

Understanding of child growth and development The ability to work as part of a team Reliable nature Take initiative Demonstrate flexibility Strong background in positive behaviour guidance Preference for candidates with experience working with children with developmental disabilities

Minimum Qualifications:

18 years of age Experience working with children Standard First Aid/CPR level C Criminal Reference Check (Vulnerable Sector) within the past 6 months Preference given to those with B.Ed, CYW, DSW, Rec & Leisure,or RECE or candidates with experience working with children with developmental delays and/or behavioural challenges

Wage:

$17.20/hour plus $2.08/hour of wage enhancement. Note: meetings, Professional Learning time, and orientation are not eligible for wage enhancement.

Paid online and in-person orientation prior to start date

Start/End Date:

September 3, 2025- December 19, 2025 with the possibility of further employment opportunities after this date

After School ONLY:

Monday to Friday, 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. with additional hours available outside of contract hours

Plus one morning staff meeting per month

Possible Additional hours:

Additional Before & After School Program Assistant hours up to 8 hours/day may be available during non-instructional days (PD days, Winter Break, Spring Break and Summer Camp). Supply opportunities at the Children's Centre are also available on a casual basis during non-contract hours. casual supply staff opportunities in our School Age Programs as well as at the Children's Centres are available outside of the contract hours for this position, if interested
