Through the Years Early Learning Centre is a high quality childcare provider located in Hubbards, Nova Scotia. Since 2002, our emphasis on outdoor play and access to stunning natural play spaces has made Through the Years a place where children and educators alike are able to grow and thrive together.
Through the Years is seeking three energetic, reliable leaders to manage its ACES "Adventure Club". Reporting to the Director, the After School Program Leaders will be responsible for creating a safe, fun , and inclusive environment for all participants.
Through the Years' Adventure Club has been made possible through a joint partnership with the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. The Adventure Club program will support the key guiding pillars of the "Nova Scotia Let's Get Moving " action plan which include:
24-hour movement guidelines
Outdoor play
Physical Literacy
Inclusive and Cultural responsive practices.
The Adventure Club will encourage energetic play in both indoor and outdoor environments. In addition, sedentary time will be limited, and screen time will not be offered.
Responsibilities:
Fostering positive relationships with children ages 3.8-12 years.
Responsible for the care, nurturing, supervision and safety of all participants
Communicating and strengthening relationships with parents and guardians
Planning and facilitating programs aligned with Through the Years' values and that facilitate growth and development in: Movement & Physical Activity, Physical Literacy, Outdoor Play, and Inclusion and Cultural Development
Actively engaging in programs with children to promote participation
Ensuring spaces are clean and tidy during programming and at end of day
Submitting incident reports to Director
Maintaining confidentiality
Communicate needs to Director and/or SSRCE BAP Facilitator
Maintain positive relationships with teammates, families, and other stakeholders
Attend monthly staff development meeting (paid for time)
Skills & Qualifications:
Experience working with children ages 3.8-12 years of age
Ability to adapt and think quickly in high energy, fast paced, stressful situations
Experience planning and implementing programs with youth
Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
Academic experience in Early Childhood Education or Recreation an asset (or equivalent)
Additional Requirements:
Available for program hours, 2pm-5:30 p.m on days in which there is school. Available earlier on embedded days as well. Available for meetings as needed. If school is closed, you do not work and are not paid.
