We have an immediate opportunity for an Advisor-Strategic Sustainability and Engagement. Sustainability, Resilience, and ESG (SR&ESG) is a key focus area for growth for us and our clients.

The Strategic Sustainability & Engagement Advisor will work within the America's ESG team to support GHD's growth in strategic sustainability and engagement efforts. This role involves leading the identification, development, prioritization, implementation, and management of sustainability, net-zero, decarbonization, and ESG programs for our clients that considers a holistic and cross-functional approach with involves stakeholder engagement and organizational change at the heart of the program which will result in success for our clients. This position can be based in the Greater Toronto Area, Waterloo, or in Houston, TX (U.S.). GHD supports a hybrid work model.

You will join a growing team with a robust book of business and sales pipeline with the potential to grow through an enhanced reporting offering driven by the leadership of this position. The SR& ESG practice area includes investor support, strategy and management of change consulting, climate risk & impact assessment, decarbonization transactions and Sustainability/ESG reporting.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide advisory services to clients in the subject matter of SR&ESG with a specific focus on assisting clients with stakeholder engagement and management of change with respect to SR&ESG.
  • This role provides high-level, strategic consulting and advice, to assessing, analyzing and developing plans, to actively engaging in hands-on work of implementing, facilitation, workshop design, and communications.
  • Support the ESG/Sustainability leadership to implement the growth strategy for the GHD Advisory Strategic Sustainability and ESG practice, aligned with the broader GHD Advisory strategy and the Enterprise Business.
  • Lead and assist with the technical delivery and management of Advisory projects and client relationships with specific focus on sustainability program development, communications, and change management.
  • Use existing relationships to support the growth of the Advisory Strategic Sustainability & ESG opportunities throughout North America and support the delivery of new and existing client opportunities.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:
  • Subject matter expert in sustainability and ESG, with a deep understanding of ESG, sustainability strategy, international ESG frameworks and disclosure standards.
  • Client-focused, with a solid understanding of how people respond and adapt to change; excellent communication (oral and written) and engagement skills with ability to influence a variety of audiences and achieve intended outcomes.
  • Experience working with senior leaders in an advisory and coaching capacity, particularly in addressing their role in effective change through sustainability programs and initiatives.
  • Driven by collective success. You encourage and facilitate collaboration understanding that the power of a cross-functional and inclusive team can bring a shared vision to life.

Required Experience and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree required in related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the corporate responsibility, sustainability, and/or communications field with proven implementation experience.
  • Experience in facilitation of workshops, training leadership teams, and providing advice to clients.
  • Experience effectively managing cross-functional teams to implement solutions.
  • Experience handling multiple initiatives, roles and responsibilities.
  • Ability to travel as needed (
20% of time).
