As Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Advisor, Case Management you will work in collaboration with the Case Management Lead, and with support from the national MHPSS unit. You will work in collaboration with CRC personnel, including case managers, to provide enhanced psychosocial support to individuals and families, as part of a team within the mandate of the Canadian Red Cross. You will provide leadership, supervision, and direction to Psychosocial Support (PSS) Recovery Officers.
In this role, you will: Responsibility 1 - Plan, support and provide guidance on creating and maintaining safe and supportive environments for all populations served as part of a response

  • Interface with colleagues on collaboration and integration of MHPSS within the operation.
  • Provide support to ensure minimum standards on beneficiary accountability, child protection, gender and diversity are met within all programs and services to beneficiaries and where appropriate facilitate and lead.
  • Lead the development of a referral system to map resources focussed on MHPSS, within community/region/province.
  • Provide resources and education on psychosocial issues, including stress, grief, and loss, among others that occur following traumatic events.
Responsibility 2 \xe2\x80\x93 Lead the implementation of psychosocial support and protection within case management
  • Ensure the implementation of the activities and services within the site/assignment are operationalized according to guidelines, standards and official mandate.
  • Support ongoing needs assessments for complex cases through consultation with case management personnel and ensure appropriate referrals.
  • Support the application of minimum standards on child protection, gender and diversity within all programs and services to beneficiaries.
Responsibility 3 \xe2\x80\x93 Advocate for and support to beneficiary accountability and communication
  • Advocate for a client-centred approach both internally and externally in matters of mental health and psychosocial support, which recognizes issues of equity and cultural diversity.
Responsibility 4 \xe2\x80\x93 Program Monitoring and Reporting
  • Implement monitoring and reporting tools as part of the planning and program management process.

What we are looking for:
  • Professional certification or degree in public health, medicine, psychology, social work, nursing or other mental health-related field, and 2 to 4 years of job-related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current professional registration (registered and in good standing) within Canada.
  • Experience of supervising staff and volunteers, and facilitating group sessions.
  • Case work and case management a strong asset.
  • Experience in living or working in a cultural context other than their own a strong asset.
  • Training in Psychological First Aid (PFA), Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR) protection and violence prevention, psychosocial support in emergencies, and knowledge and certification in crisis intervention, ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), or similar preferred.
  • Experience in working for the Red Cross/Red Crescent movement.
  • This position requires all candidates to be fluent in English. For candidates working in Quebec, French fluency is a requirement. Fluency/working knowledge in an additional language is considered a strong asset.
  • Superior interpersonal relations, communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Proven team leader with the ability to manage change, motivate team members, have strong decision-making and manage effective teams. Outstanding leadership skills in a demanding and diverse work environment combined with highly developed supervisory and delegation skills.
  • Able to listen to trauma, loss, and grief.

Working conditions:
  • The majority of the work is performed in an environment which is mostly clean and comfortable. Mobile (remote, home or office) worker arrangements will consider the tools, resources and environment required to be effective and productive.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours is required, including working weekends and evenings.
  • Regular travel, including overnight travel in Canada may be required.
  • Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and satisfactory driver\xe2\x80\x99s abstract is preferred.
