Position Summary

An exciting opportunity exists in our Metals Division in Fort Saskatchewan for an Advisor, Fire Prevention.

Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Services and Security, the purpose of Advisor, Fire Prevention is to lead the design and delivery of fire prevention programs, including monitoring and assisting in the development of building fire safety plans, and building fire inspections. Provides input into the Emergency Services and Security business plan that aligns with the overall Metals strategy within a 0\xe2\x80\x933-month time frame.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement a 0-3-month business plan that aligns with the direct leaders and Metals overall strategy for the purpose of supporting overall continuous improvement, specific to Emergency Services Fire Prevention.
  • Input data and generate master list of code non-conformances for input into Emergency Services & Security statistics, tracking and trending as well as input into site reporting activities.
  • Ensure that standards and procedures are developed and maintained that comply with all current in-scope regulatory requirements and industry standards for fire prevention.
  • Develop fire prevention systems, including standards, procedures, and training, consistent with Sherritt\xe2\x80\x99s objectives to deliver zero harm to the environment and neighboring communities and maintain Sherritt\xe2\x80\x99s social license to operate the Metals assets and comply with all current regulatory and legal requirements as well as industry standards in scope area.
  • Ensure that fire prevention practices are tested and routinely updated for effectiveness and continually improve where required.
  • Maintain a high level of professional engagement with all stakeholders through effective communication.
  • Recommend associated budgets within scope area in accordance with finance policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and review administrative filing to ensure accurate data and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting are current.
  • Optimize fire prevention practices and performance by embedding best practices, instilling a culture of continuous improvement and lean thinking, implementing technical innovation, and improving management systems.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor key performance indicators that support continuous improvement related to Emergency Services in scope area.
Qualifications and Skills
  • National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications.
  • NFPA 1031, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner (Level 1).
  • NFPA 1035, Standard on Fire and Life Safety Educator.
  • Strong understanding and experience with industrial firefighting, hazardous materials response, Incident Command Systems, and fire prevention / life safety education.
  • Previous firefighting experience will also be considered.
  • Strong understanding and experience with the Canadian Incident Command System up to and including ICS-300.
  • Investigation skills with strong communication skills both written and verbal, including public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Fire service instructor skills.
