Cumming School of Medicine

invites applications for an

Advisor, Events & Marketing

. This Full-time Fixed Term/ position is for approximately 15 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.


This position reports to the Director, Communications, Cumming School of Medicine (CSM). The position consults and collaborates closely with the CSM Fund Development and Alumni teams, the University of Calgary's External Relations team, CSM institute communicators, Alberta Health Services communicators and CSM leadership, as well as a variety of other internal and external partners.


The Advisor, Communications, is involved in strategic communications planning surrounding CSM events targeted at both internal and external audiences. The Advisor works on the design and implementation of key initiatives and events. The role requires a high level of customer service, a well-developed understanding of the events cycle, logistic requirements and associated project management.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Events:

Contribute to developing event evaluation tools to assess the success/potential for improvement of each, as well as their value to the CSM Competence with a CRM, specifically Marketo and/or Dialogue, is an asset as is knowledge and competence with Drupal Write and edit promotional material for CSM publications, university publications, websites (CSM website), social media, electronic bulletin boards and speaking notes for senior leadership to use at events. Play a key role in maintaining positive relationships with internal audiences, while ensuring internal communications activities and events support both the CSM's and the University's strategic communications goals and objectives Responsible for planning, managing and executing logistics for CSM events and work in collaboration with event and program staff to conduct needs assessment of events when required Create a budget and work-back schedule for each event, delegating tasks as needed. Post event, the Advisor, will evaluate and analyze the success of each event respectively, and schedule a debrief with parties involved to make recommendations for future events Plays a key role in coaching and mentoring other faculty and staff on successful event management and coordinating the work of volunteers and other event planning team members from project to project

Marketing:

Contribute to the development of plans that provide strong, consistent positioning of the Cumming School of Medicine as one of the top medical schools in the country and advance awareness and broaden the school's brand recognition locally, nationally and internationally. The advisor will provide effective marketing guidance and support to groups within the CSM, as well as work and coordinate with outside agencies and vendors as required The Advisor will support CSM success stories particularly in education, research and community engagement, by promoting and celebrating faculty, students, alumni, and donors. The incumbent will keep abreast of current marketing best practices, systems and tools and act as a brand champion for the Cumming School of Medicine, upholding the university's visual identity
Work professionally and collaboratively with other campus marketers, as well as other members of the university's External Relations team. The incumbent will be a strong and diplomatic communicator with sound judgment required to get to a successful outcome in what can often be challenging circumstances. The position interacts with the CSM's senior leadership, faculty, students, alumni and employees as well as external partners

Qualifications / Requirements:



Post-secondary diploma/degree in a relevant area such as communications, public relations, marketing, journalism with 2 to 5 years of experience Communication experience with emphasis on decision-making and highly developed organizational skills and ability to anticipate needs, plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work with little direction Superior understanding of social media platforms and the web Superior interpersonal and communication skills required in dealing with a range of situations, which may include complex, sensitive and confidential issues Demonstrate professionalism, discretion, courtesy, and respect in all interactions with internal and external clients creating a positive image of the CSM Ability to operate within a complex, multi-faceted work environment and be a strong team player Ability to effectively work with external vendors, manage workflow, work in a fast-paced environment, with constantly shifting priorities Must be flexible and able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously Ability to gather and analyze social media metrics is an asset Ability to anticipate and prioritize deadlines and timelines related to the promotion and execution of events is required Competence with a CRM, specifically Marketo and/or Dialogue, is an asset Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access and Power Point Working experience with Drupal 8 is an asset Knowledge of design and production software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is an asset Previous experience working in a post-secondary environment is an asset Knowledge of CSM and University culture and operating procedures an asset
