NOTE

: This posting represents a maternity leave replacement contract. This position is a full-time (35 hours/week) seasonal position from January 5 to May 29, 2026 and August 17 to March 12, 2026.



SCOPE



Reporting to Manager, Access Centre for Students with Disabilities (ACSD), the incumbent acts as an advisor whereby they analyze and review student documentation to assess the student's need and eligibility for accessibility services and accommodations. Using this information, the incumbent develops an accommodation plan with the student, which is reviewed as needed. The incumbent acts as a resource and support for students, faculty and staff on issues related to accommodations, accessibility services, and the promotion of Universal Design for Learning across the university.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES



o Review medical, psychological and educational documentation for the purpose of assessing the student's access needs, eligibility for accessibility services and determining reasonable accommodations.


o Perform intake interview and consultation sessions with students, online or in person, in order to develop an individualized accommodation plan. Using documentation provided (eg. Psychological assessments, medical documentation, IEP), interview questionnaire and evidence-based criteria set by the unit, recommend accommodations and accessibility services to support an equitable participation in a university learning experience. Prepare a Letter of Accommodation (LOA) for the instructor, detailing the students' accommodations.


o Consult with students and faculty to ensure that the accommodation and accessibility services as set out in the students' plan are implemented appropriately. Troubleshoot with students and faculty on complex situations pertaining to accommodations and accessibility services.


o Support students under stress and with self-advocacy as it relates to communicating their accessibility-related needs and functional limitations.


o Recommend strategies for addressing disability-related barriers to academic participation, including the use of adaptive technologies, skill building and coping methods.


o Collaborate with faculty and departments on the planning and implementation of accommodations to ensure that student accessibility needs are respected while maintaining the academic integrity of the classroom and assessments.


o Ensure the maintenance of quality documentation, case notes, and student personal information via the processes and systems used within the unit and perform regular quality control on data entry and service requests for students in their caseload.


o Collaborate with the ACSD exams team to ensure that student accommodations and accessibility services are implemented. Communicate with the ACSD exams team regarding unique exam set up for students.


o Support students to access aid programs and support services on and off campus. Collaborate with internship and co-op placement supervisors.


o Support the day-to-day operations and service delivery of the unit. Ensure that the ACSD Manager is regularly advised of issues and concerns relating to complex cases and situations.


o Participate as a member of internal/external committees on policies related to accessibility or Universal Design for Learning, or organizations dealing with higher education and disability, and coordinate projects in keeping with the goals of the unit.


o Provide information and psycho-education to faculty and staff on disabilities and accessibility/inclusive practices, via workshops and other evidence-based modalities. Develop and provide workshops and materials on topics related to accommodations, accessibility, coping strategies and adaptive technologies.


o Attend current professional development and be abreast of literature in the field of disability as it pertains to the work within the ACSD.


o Be aware of and collaborate with Campus Wellness and Support Services and Student Services in supporting students as needed.





QUALIFICATIONS



o Bachelor's degree in a related field (Psychology, Disability Studies, Education, etc.) and four to seven years of related work experience.


o Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students and to draft correspondence, documentation, and reports. Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken French and basic knowledge (Level 3) of written French.


o Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Word and PowerPoint.


o Experience in dealing compassionately with individuals in sometimes difficult personal situations.


o Ability to read and understand the terminology used in medical documentation and psychoeducational assessments.


o Excellent problem-solving skills to assess student accessibility needs and implement appropriate solutions.


o Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to deal sensitively with individuals.


o Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and solution-focused communication


o Knowledge of the social model of disability and current trends in the field of disability at the university level (i.e., physical, learning, mental health, medical, injuries) and its impact on learning.


o Knowledge of specific technological aids, software and services that remove barriers to visual and hearing impairment and print disabilities.


o Knowledge of the principles of Universal Design for Learning as they apply to an educational institution, disability-specific barriers and barrier reduction strategies, principles of inclusive education and principles of academic integrity.


o Knowledge of Quebec government legislation, the Quebec and Canada Charter of Human Rights and programs for disability support at the post-secondary level, and community resources serving people with disabilities.


o Knowledge of privacy of information legislation and professional practice, as it relates to confidentiality of personal information.


o Approachability, empathy and patience with others


o Ability to work in a team environment and cooperate with others.


o Ability to multi-task and work under pressure with minimal supervision.


o Aptitude to work in a service-oriented environment as both a member of a team and independently.


o Able to accept constructive feedback, reflect and integrate suggestions, and change practices to improve service delivery.
