Summary





Whirlpool Adventure Course Guides facilitate guests' experiences on our Adventure Courses. They guide our guests through every step of the adventure - helping to harness them, training them on how our courses and our equipment work, and coaching and encouraging them through their experience in the air! Guides are knowledgeable, friendly, passionate and able to put others at ease. They thrive in the outdoors, love being physically active, are comfortable with heights and get great satisfaction from supervising and helping others face challenges and push their boundaries.



To excel as a Whirlpool Adventure Course Guide, you need to have an outgoing, confident personality, think fast on your feet, and demonstrate sound judgment. Guides need to work well under pressure, be good at listening and identifying the needs of others, provide sound advice based on best practices, and be assertive when required to ensure that guests minimize activity risk. Guides must have excellent communication skills and work well individually and as part of a team.

Responsibilities and Duties




Ensuring guests enjoy safe, positive, and enriching experiences Demonstrating, teaching, and assisting guests in the use of safety equipment Ensuring the appropriate fit, adjustments, and use of equipment before and during activities Ensuring guests respect rules without compromise Monitoring elements for risk-management; assessing and intervening when situations require (according to methods discussed in training modules) Reporting all incidents and inappropriate behaviour of the guests or fellow co-workers to Team Leads, Supervisors, or Leadership Team Reporting malfunctions or abnormalities to Team Lead or Leadership Team Understanding and practicing site emergency and evacuation plan Maintaining a clean work environment with tasks including - but not limited to - cleaning, sweeping, mopping, trash removal, etc. as required by Leadership Participating in Daily Opening Inspections and Daily PPE Inspections Conducting ongoing equipment inspections and escalating all issues Ensuring activity guidelines, policies and procedures are respected (radio protocol, uniform, Access Requirements, etc.) Providing excellent customer service and guest engagement Passing on any positive or negative feedback from guests to the Leadership Team Being aware of environmental risks due to weather (heat, snow, ice, rain, wind, lightning, etc.) Taking appropriate actions to manage risks (hydration, element evacuation procedures, signs of frostbite, hypothermia, hyperthermia, heat stroke, etc.) Being aware of terrain risks (loose rock, snowy, icy or muddy trails) and taking appropriate actions to manage these risks by escalating to a Team Lead or taking care of these risks if applicable Carrying out other work as directed by Team Lead, Supervisors, or Leadership Team Participating as a positive and proactive member of the WildPlay team



Required Qualifications and Skills





Experience in delivering excellent customer service Ability to consistently deliver high standards of work in all weather conditions outdoors, including extreme heat, sun, humidity, rain and temperature change Unfailing attention to detail Excellent communication skills Sound judgment and strong decision-making skills Ability to act both independently and as a team player A positive attitude and openness to feedback Physical demands include continuously holding, carrying and lifting equipment, frequent walking/standing, and frequent bending/twisting/kneeling Current

Standard First-Aid and CPR-C Certification



Note: On-the-job training will be provided upon employment.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills




Knowledge and/or experience in outdoor recreation activities Experience in a risk-management position Experience working in a fast paced, hospitality/tourism based environment



Work Department



The Adventure Course Guide position falls under the Element Department. Guides report to the supervision of the Element Team Leads and Park Management.

Work Schedule





The Adventure Course Guide is a seasonal position that typically runs from June to October, depending on the weather and the needs of the business. Specific employee contracts are flexible and adaptable to individual availability.



During the season Adventure Course Guides work a flexible schedule of full-time and part-time employment. This includes working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
