Position Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our forward-thinking specialty pain management and interventional radiology practice. This is a unique and multifaceted role that blends clinical excellence, patient advocacy, research collaboration, and strategic coordination.

The RN/NP will report directly to the Director of Interventional Pain Management, playing a pivotal role in patient care, procedural support, research initiatives, scheduling, and advanced practice responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Collaboration & Patient Care

Partner with the Director of Interventional Pain Management in multidisciplinary consultations and treatment planning.

Assist in specialized pain management and interventional spine procedures (e.g., vertebral augmentation, intradiscal therapies, joint injections, basivertebral nerve ablation).

Prepare patients for procedures, monitor sedation and recovery, and ensure post-procedure safety.

Provide patient education, discharge planning, and follow-up care.

Act as the primary liaison between patients and the clinical team, ensuring clarity, empathy, and continuity of care.

Participate in operational and quality improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, safety, and patient experience.

RN Track: Focused on procedural assistance, patient support, and coordination of care.

NP Track (expanded scope): Conduct independent patient assessments, order diagnostic imaging and labs, prescribe medications, and contribute directly to procedural decision-making (per CARNA scope of practice).

Research & Academic Contribution

Support ongoing research projects, including patient enrollment, data collection, and adherence to study protocols.

Collaborate with the Research Manager and physician investigators on study design, implementation, and reporting.

Contribute to academic manuscripts, abstracts, and conference presentations.

Stay up to date with best practices and innovations in pain management, spine care, and interventional radiology.

Director Support & Schedule Management

Manage and optimize the Director of Interventional Pain Management's schedule (clinical, procedural, research, and academic commitments).

Coordinate logistics for patient care, research studies, and academic initiatives.

Anticipate workflow needs and provide advanced support in clinical and research environments.

Leadership & Professional Development

Mentor junior nurses, technologists, and trainees in clinical and procedural standards.

Contribute to the development of internal clinical protocols and patient pathways.

Represent Beam Radiology in academic or professional forums.

Education and Experience

For Registered Nurses (RN):

Bachelor of Nursing (BN/BScN) required.

Active RN license in Alberta (CARNA required).

ACLS and BLS certification required; moderate sedation certification preferred.

Minimum 5 years of relevant clinical experience (orthopedics, pain management, anesthesiology, ICU, or surgical specialties).

Recovery room (PACU) experience an asset.

For Nurse Practitioners (NP):

Master's in Nursing and NP designation (CARNA required).

Prescriptive authority and diagnostic imaging ordering rights.

ACLS and BLS certification required.

Minimum 3-5 years of advanced practice nursing experience, ideally in pain management, anesthesiology, orthopedics, or interventional radiology.

Strong background in patient assessment, prescribing, and independent clinical decision-making.
