Living in Tsay Keh Dene and working out of the Tsay Keh Dene Nation Learning Centre, the Adult
Education Instructor is required to follow all policies and procedures, and comply with directives from the
Director of Education. The Adult Education Instructor plans, instructs and organizes learning
environments to help adult students learn subject matters and skills which will contribute to their
educational and social development. He/she coordinates activities and collaborates with other
department staff. The Adult Education Instructor develops and maintains key relationships with the
Director of Education, Teacher and support staff, high school students, adult students, community
members, and funding and regulatory organizations. He/she assesses the needs, monitors the progress
and supports the learning pathway of adult students; Integration of life skills, trades and other education
programming as well as other related duties as required by the Director of Education.

Job Duties:
Curriculum Planning, Preparation and Delivery Responsibilities
o Plan, prepare and deliver instructional courses and subjects in accordance with policy and
curriculum
Incorporate First Nations curriculum and ways of learning into all class programs
Adapt learning and outcome to match the students they instruct
Incorporate student centred learning across the curriculum
Deliver teaching materials according to student's educational needs, the adult students
assigned to them including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the adult
students Actively uses the concept of Assessment for Learning for all adult students
Adapt instruction to adult student needs

Teach English and Math in relation to post-secondary programs at the fundamental,
intermediate, advanced and provincial levels Integrate new and innovative programs involving trades education
Communicate program design and outcomes effectively to adult students, department staff and
General Manager Classroom / Student Management Responsibilities

Assessment, Grading, and Reporting
o Working with adult students, creates clear and effective learning and assessment criteria
Develops and uses effective assessment practices based upon best practices and Adult
Learning Centre policy Keeps accurate and timely records of adult student progress and makes sure that information is
available to department staff and adult students Reports in a timely to adult students and adult staff regarding the progress of the adult students
assigned to them both orally in meetings and in writing
Professional Practice:
Take responsibility for own professional development and supports lifelong learning for all
Work effectively and cooperatively with department staff, community members and other
professionals in the development and implementation of best practices for adult learning
Connects with the community in the integration of adult learning and integrates community views
on educational needs
Participates in community programs that link the Adult Learning Centre to the school and larger
community
Is a demonstrated role model to the community
Participates in regular meeting with other department staff or community members to discuss
and implement best practices in adult education
Requirements:
University Degree, preferably a Master's in either English or Math
Member of Teacher Regulation Branch (or working towards membership)
Qualified to teach in Canada.
3 to 5 years of teaching experience with youth and adults.
An understanding of adult Aboriginal student needs.
Experience in trades education an asset
Proven ability to successfully work and interact with adult students, staff and visitors in a
sensitive, effective and professional manner. Good organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
Strong morals and ethics, sound judgement and reasoning skills, along with a commitment to
discretion and privacy. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills that allow one to work
Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
Physically able to perform all assigned tasks.
