POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Student Admissions Officer
Hours of work: Flexible 40-hour week
Location: On-site with some travel required
Reports to: Director of Student Success
Appointment: Full-time
Salary: $ 50,000- $55,000

Oshki-Wenjack builds self- awareness in learners and empowers them to contribute to the community, economic and cultural growth of Nishnawbe Aski Nation and other communities.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Admissions Officer will work with representatives from Nishnawbe Aski Nation communities and affiliated organizations and partners to promote the post-secondary education and training programs offered at Oshki-Wenjack. The Admissions Officer will also assist prospective First Nation students and other learners to achieve or exceed the minimum student enrollment targets for each program. The Admissions Officer is responsible to the Director of Student Success on a day-to-day basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reach out to individuals who applied to a program at Oshki-Wenjack and assist in the admissions process where needed.
Evaluate student applicants and provide or refer any support they may need throughout the admissions process.
Liaise with various funders regarding sponsorship process.
Initiate and maintain student files using the Institute's database, Ellucian for tracking and follow-up purposes for admissions and registration.
Oversees admissions in multiple programs. Develops and provides information to prospective applicants to determine their needs and advise them of programs of study, funding, and admission requirements.
Analyzes and prepares admission files according to partner requirements, ensuring that all admission requirements are met. Check student status lists for accuracy and make necessary corrections.
Liaise with the financial aid officer.
Liaise with program staff, and colleagues in partner institutions, to track program applications.
Assist applicants to obtain their supporting documents like transcripts and verification documents that are required in the admissions process for entry into their chosen program of study.
Support student entry into programs by assisting with the registration process.
Establishes positive relationships with learners.
Develop and implement an admissions strategy that will actively track/monitor the student's process from the application to the acceptance of enrollment and confirmation of funding.
Maintain student files and database for tracking and follow-up purposes for recruitment, admissions, and graduation.
Ontario College Application Service
Support potential students in navigating the OCAS when seeking entry into a program of study.
Monitor the application process for each potential student subject to their consent.
Community Liaison; Dialogue, Engagement and Outreach
Travel regularly to Nishnawbe-Aski Nation communities to:
? Create positive working relationships in NAN with Chief and Councils, community members, education authorities and committees.
? Promote programs in the communities.
? Assist in achieving student recruitment targets for each program.
? Identify education and training needs that will support the capacity requirements in their schools, business and service agencies in their communities and partners in the regions.
? Establish Oshki-Wenjack as a leader in post-secondary education.
Other Duties
Supports the implementation of the student success strategy to ensure enrollment target levels are achieved, leading to student success and graduation.
Take personal responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness, and implementation of Oshki-Wenjack's cultural teachings and organizational practices in both professional conduct and work-related deliverables.
Access and utilize Elders and Knowledge Holders for teachings and guidance as it relates to work deliverables.
Be prepared to work in conjunction with the philosophy and mandate of the Institute.
Adhere to the Policies and Procedures as set by the Institute.
Always maintain professionalism.
Adhere to the Code of Ethics and positive relationship building.
Regular attendance and conduct at work according to the requirements of Oshki-Wenjack's Policies and Procedures.
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Specific Knowledge:
Knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and Indigenous communities.
Proficient using Microsoft Tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
An understanding of potential barriers to prospective students within the communities that Oshki-Wenjack serves.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Required
Valid Class G Driver's license
Post-secondary Degree/Diploma/Certificate along with 1 to 3 years of experience preferably in a post-secondary setting.
Equivalencies may be considered.
1 to 3 years of experience working in an Indigenous organization with a focus on northern communities.
Previous sales experience would be an asset
Must be able to work independently within a team environment
Previous OSAP experience within the industry is an asset

Expectation to travel to remote First Nations
