Job Description

Reporting to the volunteer Board of Directors, the Administrator will oversee the operation of the Mental Wellness Centre and related service delivery programs. The South Okanagan Similkameen Mental Wellness Society is a community partner of the BC Schizophrenia Society and provides peer and family support to individuals with mental illness and their families.

This job entails oversight and administration of the Peer Support and Family Support programs and reports directly to the operating Board of Directors. Key tasks include the administrative management of the Wellness Centre and its personnel, completion of regular operational, statistical, budgetary reports, and implementation of the Society's organizational, promotional, and fundraising activities.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills including empathetic listening skills and the ability to relate to individuals during times of distress. The Mental Wellness Society aims to provide a welcoming atmosphere and the Administrator would be vital in fulfilling this mandate.

Knowledge of the Recovery Model, guiding principles of a Peer Support Program, the mental health services in the South Okanagan Similkameen area, and experience with mental illness are assets in this position.

Knowledge of common business practices, social media platforms, the Microsoft Office suite of products and digital/computer technology is a job requirement.

The hours of work will vary, however, 30 hours per week is anticipated, and may involve travel to South Okanagan Similkameen communities.

A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for work purposes is required for this position.
