As a Cloud Data Administrator, you will play a critical role in managing modern data storage structures across all environments in the data ecosystem. You will support Porter's transition toward a scalable, flexible, and high-performance target state architecture, ensuring our data is accessible, accurate, and optimized for analytical and operational use cases.
This role requires deep technical knowledge of cloud-native database systems, mindset for rigorous management and automation of emerging modern data technologies. Your focus will be on supporting the growing complexity of our data environment, driving innovation, and ensuring data integrity and performance across systems.
Duties & Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross- functional teams to design, implement and optimize modern data solutions that support advanced analytics, AI/ML workload,and complex reporting needs
• Provide query reviews and assist developers in optimizing queries for performance and efficiency
• Execute the creation and management of database structure objects throughout the solution delivery process
• Prepare, present and implement production changes in efficient and timely manners
• Create maintenance, backup and data retention plans such that the database is adequately backed up so that vital information can be retrieved in case of accidental loss or security breach
• Provide support during non-business hours, including nights and weekends, as needed to ensure continuous system availability for processes after hours and weekends
• Drive the transition and management of traditional data warehouses data storage and processing capabilities to cloud-based modern Data Platforms capabilities, integrating structured and unstructured data for seamless analytics and operational use
• Implement policies and practices for unified data management, governance, and security, ensuring data consistency and auditability across all data environments
• Optimize performance across all data storage systems and legacy architectures by implementing best practices in partitioning, indexing, and distributed computing
• Maintain a comprehensive technical data catalog, including system metadata and lineage tracking, for efficient data discovery and governance across the data ecosystem
• Monitor data workflows and processes in real-time using advanced observability tools to ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and optimal performance
• Stay up to date with emerging trends in Modern Data Architectures technologies, frameworks (e.g., Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake), and cloud services to drive continuous improvements
• Providing guidance, feedback, and support to database users and technology groups on their data needs
• Actively participate in Porter's Safety Management System(SMS) including, reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply with and promote Company Safety Policy

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

• Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or similar degree preferred
• Excellent knowledge of database design, data warehouse methodologies and data integration techniques
• 5 to 7 years of experience as a Database Administrator
• 3 to 5 years SQL experience with on-premise and cloud based database systems such as SQL Server, Postgresql, Redshift or BigQuery
• 3 to 5 years of experience using AWS products and services such as S3, RDS, Lambda, Redshift, and Kinesis
• 3 to 5 years SQL experience with data backup, recovery, security, integrity and SQL
• 3 to 5 years of experience with performance traceability monitoring tools like Dynatrace or similar technologies (DataDog)
• 2+ years of experience with DataOps, automation frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines for data pipelines
• 1 to 3 years of experience with database modeling and software design
• Exceptional problem solving skills
• Experience working in the environment with ETL integration and reporting tools such as Matillion, SSIS, SSRS and Tableau
• Experience managing and administering modern data storage technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, AWS Redshift Spectrum, Delta Lake, and cloud environments utilizing AWS services like Lake Formation, Glue, Athena, and S3-based data lakes
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems and parallel processing technologies (e.g., Apache Spark, Apache Kafka).
• Proven experience in administration and managing operational aspect of data models and schemas for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data in Lakehouse environments
• Exposure to AI/ML model operationalization and its integration within a Lakehouse architecture is a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, to communicate with business stakeholders, project teams and project managers
• Familiarity with data governance, security practices, and privacy regulations as they apply to cloud and modern data architectures

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

• 5 + years of experience managing Data Warehouses such as Redshift, RDS SQl server, or PostGreSQL as a Database Administration
• 5 + years of experience managing administration of SSIS and SSRS applications/tools
• 5 + years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) products and services, especially Redshift, Kinesis, Lambda, EMR, RDS or other cloud services
• 3 + years of experience in documenting database standards, design and Root Cause Analysis
