Your Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly skilled, client and family centered, team oriented, welcoming, and engaging Addiction Counsellor to join our Addiction and Mental Health Adult Outreach Team. The Addiction Counsellor III will work with individuals struggling with addiction issues and/or concurrent disorders. The incumbent will work with individuals, families and community stakeholders providing education and prevention/promotion information. Responsibilities will also include individual, family and group counselling including the provision of screening, assessment, treatment, case management, consultations, and referrals. This role also monitors and evaluates client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapts treatment plans as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will utilize your relationship building skills with clients, families, team members and community stakeholders. This position is an Outreach position and will work with clients using an assertive Outreach model and meeting clients where they are at. This position works as part of a multi-disciplinary team who will provide recovery oriented, client-centered, evidence based, holistic care to clients who are socially vulnerable and/or dealing with problematic substance use. By using a recovery oriented, multidisciplinary approach, the team strives to support at risk clients who want to improve their social determinants of health. This position also supports clients accessing services in any of our AMH Outreach programs. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:
As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 2-3 years' experience working in an Addiction counselling field. The incumbent should have knowledge of resources within Addiction and Mental Health, relevant community resources and be able to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members and community stakeholders. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload. Non-violent crisis intervention and suicide intervention training required. Naloxone administration training required.

Preferred Qualifications:

BLS and first aid training preferred. Previous experience working with individuals receiving opiate agonist therapy preferred. Experience in liaising and working in partnership with community stakeholders, other professionals and physicians in the continuum of Addiction and Mental Health care preferred. Knowledge of Recovery Oriented Care preferred.
