Pinewood Centre provides a range of substance use, concurrent disorders and problem gambling treatment services to seniors, adults and youth and their families in Durham Region. This position will function as part of Community Treatment Services, within the Opiate Case Management Team, and provide a range of substance use treatment services for individuals seeking support. The counsellor provides direct, intensive clinical services, outreach, consultation, and program development activities within evidence-based models of care. Close collaboration with other community partners is an essential component of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences;
Must have and maintain a valid Ontario driver's license;
Demonstrated experience with substance use and concurrent disorders populations, including intake/screening, assessment, referral, and treatment
Planning and other case management functions;
Demonstrated experience in provision of individually-based substance use counselling, and group-based services, including psycho-educational and therapeutic modalities; experience with telephone counselling is also required;
Demonstrated inclusion and ability to work with family or other personal supports as an integral part of service delivery;
Exceptional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
Excellent documentation skills, ensuring client files are maintained and managed in a secure manner according to Lakeridge Health standards;
Excellent working knowledge of theories of addiction, evidence-based treatment models and best practices;
Knowledge of the provincial and regional strategies to address the treatment of opiate dependence and the prevention of overdose;
Knowledge of other key issues associated with substance use, particularly the treatment of opiate dependence, concurrent disorders, physical health issues, women's issues, homelessness, family issues, youth, and the older adult population and their issues;
Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and the provincial addictions treatment system; ability to work closely with the community and the mental health and addictions communities of practice;
Ability to recognize and diffuse escalating or potentially violent clients;
Ability to work closely with a clinical team, and independently in a manner consistent with high professional standards;
Experience with program and service development;
Commitment to a client focused and harm reduction philosophy of care;
Willingness to be clinically supervised and pursue ongoing professional development;
Must have satisfactory performance record;

Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.
