As one of two Actuaries in the Income Security and Pension Policy Division, you'll work on complex issues that influence legislation and regulations, including rules for funding administration and investment of registered pension plans, and retirement income strategies, providing expert advice that helps protect pension plan benefits and support government priorities. You can expect to:



provide expert actuarial advice to support pension policy development, including legislative and regulatory initiatives analyze actuarial reports, policy submissions, recent trends, proposed legislation and reforms in other jurisdictions to evaluate the policy implications for Ontario collaborate with internal and external actuaries to support policy analysis across the division contribute to the development of pension standards, funding models, investment strategies, and broader retirement income policies serve as a technical resource for the division, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of actuarial reviews and supporting strategic decision-making

Mandatory requirements




You must be a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and be able to provide proof before receiving a job offer.

Actuarial and pension knowledge




You have knowledge of:

actuarial principles, standards, and valuation methods used to assess pension plans and provide expert advice operation of pension plan, including funding, administration, investment and governance, including compliance with Ontario's Pension Benefits Act and regulations and related federal and provincial legislation pension plan design, funding, and investment strategies, with insight into current and emerging issues affecting plan sustainability how actuarial analysis informs pension policy development and regulatory decision-making

Communication and relationship management skills




You can:


communicate complex actuarial concepts in clear, accessible language tailored to executives, policy teams, and non-technical audiences provide technical advice and recommendations on pension-related issues, using strong consultation and persuasion skills collaborate effectively with colleagues and build productive relationships across branches, ministries, and external stakeholders represent the organization in meetings and working groups, contributing to discussions with professionalism and credibility

Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills




You can:


assess the accuracy and relevance of submitted actuarial data and provide well-reasoned recommendations to senior decision-makers conduct complex actuarial reviews involving data analysis, projections, and evaluation of assumptions, with attention to plan funding impact and policy implications apply critical thinking to interpret data in context, identify risks, and explore creative solutions to pension-related challenges use statistical and analytical tools to produce insights that inform pension policy and regulatory decisions
