Reports to: Activity/Recreation Manager & General Manager
Qualifications:
Secondary education or additional education in recreation or a degree/diploma in gerontology an asset.
Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting an asset.
Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors.
Be able to read, write and comfortably communicate in English.
Able to perform physical work.
Fun, organized, sensitive, enthusiastic, patient, tactful and mature.
Must be able to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, volunteers, residents and families.
Experience in planning, organizing and managing events is an asset.
Current certification in CPR and First Aid.

Physical Demands:

Standing for extended periods of time during events, activities.
Walking short distances and up/down staircases.
Pulling/pushing/lifting to relocate furniture, gaming pieces, etc. up to 50lbs.
Reading/seeing documentation both in paper format and on a computer screen for extended periods of time.
Hearing differences in phone ring tones and/or in fire system horns or alerts for emergency response purposes.
Speaking/communicating in front of audiences for extended periods of time.
Bending, kneeling, providing walking support for residents where required.
Hand/eye coordination required to play games with Residents.
Responsibilities:
Assists in the institution of internal and external programs that enriches the lives of each resident.
Assists to interview and assess residents' social history, physical ability and behaviours, spiritual lifestyle, important memories and losses, family dynamics and contacts, dietary requirements and language abilities.
Assists with the management of the volunteer program, including orientation, motivation and development of the volunteers.
Plan, organize and submit for approval a monthly activity schedule offering a variety of activities, crafts and events.
Assists with the execution through the volunteers and other resources, the monthly activities schedule.
Creates an enjoyable, relaxed and entertaining environment in the residence and assumes responsibility for the morale and well-being of residents.
Communicate with each and every resident on a regular basis.
Assists to plan, organize, write and publish a monthly newsletter containing a variety of articles and information for distribution to the residents and their families.
Be aware and react to special needs including but not limited to: Tuck shop, Arts and crafts, Music events, Regular parties, Exercises, Cooking, Library services, Therapeutic recreations
: Risk Management and General Safety
1. Partners with community team to ensure community is in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and/or policies; adherence to safety rules and regulations.
2. Practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire safety procedures including extinguishers (as applicable), SDSs (Safety Data Sheets) and Lockout Tagout procedures.
3. Reports all accidents/incidents immediately.
4. Reports all unsafe and hazardous conditions/equipment immediately.
5. Complies with all infection control techniques, placement of biohazard containers and removal techniques, procedures and policies.
6. Participates in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures.
