Job Description

1. Supervision:

Employee performs duties within established policy guidelines,
goals and objectives with a trauma informed lens, and has primary responsibility for delivery of an area of work. There are multiple roles available for Housing Support Specialists at the ACRES Supported Site on Somerset Street and Shelter Support Staff at the OTC (Out of The Cold) Shelter on Rothesay Avenue.

2. General Summary & Competencies:

This is a direct service position providing ongoing support as part of a collaborative team. There will be a mix of responsibilities and positions being split between the two sites.

The ACRES Housing Support Specialist contributes to the overall success of the community goal of ending chronic homelessness and ensures a successful housing support program for the agency. This is accomplished by effectively completing various tasks, relating to ensuring sustained tenancy, and client led intensive case management. Self-directed and enthusiastic, the ACRES Housing Support Specialist is responsible to meet outcomes as identified and directed by the agency.

The Shelter Support Staff will contribute to the overall success of the community goal of ending chronic homelessness and ensures a successful emergency shelter response within the community. This is accomplished by effectively completing various tasks, relating to ensuring access is available for all individuals experiencing homelessness. We are a low barrier shelter; meaning that couples, pets and those with substance use are welcome.
We are also a NO BAN shelter and only the Shelter Coordinator and Executive
Director can make the decision for temporary removal and/or suspension of
services. Self-directed and enthusiastic, the Shelter Support Staff is responsible
to meet outcomes as identified and directed by the agency.

3. Essential Duties of Position:

Fresh Start Services.

Program Delivery:



Client-led strength based approach to identifying areas in need of development in the living, learning, working and social environments as appropriate and support clients in their personal goals. Maintain communication with the larger Fresh Start Team and other community agencies involved. Ensure all program forms and documents are completed, filed and kept up to date. Address any challenges/issues that may present themselves Relay of appropriate information to staff. Problem solving and critical thinking as it relates to challenges that present for the client. 4. Special Conditions of Employment:

Must have successfully completed vulnerable sector/child abuse registry checks Must be open and non-judgmental in working with vulnerable clients living with homelessness, mental illness, poor mental health, substance use disorder and living with generational poverty and the effects of trauma. Must have an understanding and acceptance of harm reduction and trauma informed practice. Post Secondary Education in combination with professional experience; lived experience is an asset.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 - 37.5 per week
