We work behind the scenes to supply our network of service providers and OEMS with products and solutions that protect lives and property.

Let's assume you have been to a restaurant, condo, mall or office tower before. We supply emergency lights, fire alarm components, fire extinguishers, fire hose, signage, chemicals, detectors and more to the service companies that install and maintain these systems and devices. We supply critical components to the major manufacturers in our industry like Johnson Controls, Carrier, Honeywell and Amerex to name a few.

JOB OVERVIEW



This position reports to the Controller. The Steel Fire Group is a fast-paced organization that requires a highly organized individual who can manage a variety of tasks for various business entities in a timely manner. This role requires you to be on premises with no hybrid or remote work option.

Not everyone is built to be a Collections All Star. We can ship the wrong product, but if we provide poor collections experience, it can ruin a relationship. When faced with challenging communication all your skills are on display. You show empathy, regulate your emotions and use your social and problem-solving skills to achieve company goals along with making sure our customer feels heard.

Customer contact with collection activities forms a significant part of this position. You are someone that views Collections as collaborative as opposed to confrontational. AR is an extension of customer service and a critical contributor to the Customer Experience. The successful individual values treating our customers, from small business owners to finance teams at large corporations, as partners, with the highest level of respect and dignity.

Strangely (sarcasm), people are not always keen to answer or reply to Collections in a timely manner. Given the level of follow-up required in this position, previous managers would describe you as detailed, organized and action oriented. Never one to sit idle, you are equally enthusiastic about helping with the administrative tasks that need to get done as well as exciting new challenges.

Our Collection function runs on Collection Management Software. The software automatically sends proactive reminders when invoices are becoming due based on customer segment strategies. A worklist is generated each morning to organize your efforts and prioritize collections activities. You will send emails, update call logs, and enter promises to pay into our Collections software. Throughout the day you will review our ERP for orders that go on credit hold and prioritize contacting those customers. The goal is to provide uninterrupted service to our customers by proactively engaging them prior to the account going on hold.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



Monitor credit hold alerts hourly for entered orders and following up with customers for payment details to release. Manage the daily collection software worklist, including making collection calls (phone and email), logging call details, updating Promise to Pay (P2P) records, and conducting follow-ups as needed. Address customer queries and provide missing documents (e.g. invoices, statements) Communicate problem accounts to Controller Set up new customers in the ERP system and maintain as necessary Assist cash application team member to apply payments correctly against customer account Maintain credit cards in processor portal Process credit card payments weekly Identify opportunities to improve the collections process or software and take leadership role to resolve

REQUIREMENTS



3+ years Collections experience in a business-to-business distribution environment (product sales preferred) Tech savvy as you will be using Collections Software, Slack, Front to name a few Experience with ERP systems, terminal and point of sale credit card systems You are a naturally curious person that has a need to learn and understand High emotional IQ Experience using collections software or other similar software an asset but not required. Intermediate skills in Excel including lookups and pivot tables.
