Acounting Supervisor

Our print division in Vancouver is seeking a results-driven and self-motivated Accounting Supervisor to join our fast-paced team environment.

About this opportunity:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Accounting Supervisor is a member of the Senior Management Committee and plays a key role in assisting with developing and implementing strategic and operational objectives/plans to meet current company goals and short/long term shareholder expectations.

Your Responsibilities:
Company Assets:

  • Ensure consistent and accurate valuation of inventories with physical counts at a minimum, quarterly.
  • Ensure Fixed Asset Ledger is maintained and hold periodic audits.
  • Ensure proper Book Valuation of assets, whether Fixed Assets, Inventories or Receivables, through provision allocations or write-offs.
  • Maintain/enhance relationships with existing and prospective customers.
  • Ensure timely and accurate invoicing.
Financial Reporting:
  • Ensure financial reporting meets not only internal needs but more specific GTC/TCP requirements re:
  • Formatting and disclosure of data.
  • Pre-determined reporting schedules.
  • Prepare short and long-term company forecasts and capital/operating budgets
  • Assist the company in achieving budgeted sales and profits through the preparation of timely and accurate management information reports along with constructive comments on significant variances to plan.
  • Ensure all aspects of data control and inputting systems/procedures are in place and provided within pre-determined schedules.
  • Provide professional accounting advice to financial and non-financial management and staff.
  • Ensure that internal controls and procedures are in place and adhered to in all functional areas of accounting:
  • Invoicing and Collections
  • Costing
  • Accounts Payable
  • Data Entry
  • Payroll
  • Ensure that all data and information is available for audit staff (Internal/External) as required
  • In-line with Financial Reporting - ensure data is available for audit staff (internal/external) as required.
  • Maintain adequate records to support valuation of assets, or provisions as deemed necessary
General Administration:
  • Ensure a high level of team performance through selection, training and motivation.
  • Assist or co-ordinate capital and operating project evaluation, submissions and subsequent audits.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for employees through effective management of company Safety Policy and government legislation, effective Safety training for employees, and the establishment of safety standards and good housekeeping within the division.
  • Development/Implementation and monitoring of internal systems/procedures to minimize expenses and maximize use of staff/systems
  • Ensure internal controls and procedures are in place and adhered to
Qualifications Required:
  • Post Secondary education: BA in Accounting or similar.
  • 5 years of accounting / or business analyst experience.
  • CPA designation - or working on designation; Foreign equivalent of CPA acceptable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • High level of accuracy.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English both verbally and written.
  • Strong Excel skills is a must have - Power Pivot, combining data from different data sources and creating reports.
  • Peoplesoft Finance experience is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to changing work environments and managing high-stress situations.
  • Ability to coach, build an efficient team, and motivate others.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Specifically, the Accounting Supervisor will manage and exercise control over the following areas:
  • Financial Reporting.
  • Purchasing - cost control
  • Legal and Audit Requirements.
  • Invoicing.
  • Company Assets.
  • Closing Month-end activities in 3 days (no exceptions).
  • Inter-company reconciliation.
  • General Office Administration.
  • Administration Policies/Procedures.
  • Coordination with Shared Service Centre.
