THE OPPORTUNITY
Assist VP of Finance in managing the accounting operations including journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and statutory reporting.
Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal regulatory and company policies and procedures.
Prepare, analyze and present monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated operating results for the entire Corporation.
Work with VP of Finance and operations to define, measure, analyze, improve, and control current processes which influence internal operating efficiency.
Budgeting and forecasting.
Provide strategic analysis as required to drive improved decision making.
Work with external auditors, internal audit, and Board of Directors.
Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of Corporate financial information.
Provide advice and guidance on all accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting.
Coordinate the year-end audit and preparation for the audit for the entire Corporation.
Coordinate all government audits.
Responsible for the preparation of consolidated monthly financial statements and external reporting to financial institutions, ensuring that all reporting requirements are met.
Responsible for all other financial reporting to various companies and agencies (TPC, Insurance, Stats Can, federal and provincial grant reporting etc.).
Support new systems or project selections and implement them from a strategic finance and internal control perspective.
Work with VP of Finance to promote and maintain positive corporate relations with financial community.
Assist VP of Finance in managing grants applications and reporting requirements.
Lead insurance requests and reporting.
Support the onboarding of new company acquisitions.
Identify through analysis continuous improvement opportunities for the SG&A area.
Training, mentoring and supervising accounting staff.
THE REQUIREMENTS
University degree in Business/Accounting, with advanced degree or professional accounting designation (CPA designation preferred).
Management or supervisory experience of at least 5 years.
Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management.
Thorough knowledge of all relevant Federal, Provincial and local requirements regarding financial records, pension, profit sharing, and the like is essential.
Experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms.
Financial analysis, budgeting, and some strategic planning experience.
Knowledge of budget preparation and analysis techniques.
Knowledge of publicly traded companies.
Knowledge of ERP computer systems required.
Extensive project management skills and the ability to motivate teams to produce quality work within tight timeframes.
Excellent leadership, presentation, problem solving and organizational skills are essential.
Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.
