Job Description

:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will oversee key accounting functions, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), general ledger (GL), and reconciliations. You will also play a critical role in preparing financial statements, assisting with budget planning, coordinating audits, and developing strategies to optimize the organization's financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage general accounting functions: AP, AR, GL, and reconciliations.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for leadership, stakeholders, and funding agencies.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
  • Assist with budget preparation, financial planning, and reporting.
  • Coordinate audits and tax filings with external auditors and consultants.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop financial strategies that streamline operations, improve programs, and reduce costs.
  • Conduct financial forecasts and risk analysis while providing recommendations to address opportunities and challenges.
  • Ensure accurate inventory valuations and perform inventory cost analysis.
  • Prepare and maintain reconciliations for inventory accounts.
  • Support the Financial Controller and other departments with accounting-related tasks.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Holding a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and disclosures is an asset.
  • Strong experience managing budgets, forecasts, reconciliations, and financial reporting functions.
  • Expertise in AP and AR processes with a solid understanding of accounting concepts and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (experience with Sage preferred).
  • Advanced skills in MS Office Suite (specifically Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a proactive mindset to handle unexpected tasks.
  • Experience working with federal funding agencies and preparing required reports, including Statistics Canada filings, is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and customer service focus.
