The Accounting Manager is responsible for supervising daily accounting operations across multiple entities, ensuring timely processing of transactions, and supporting the Controller / Finance Manager in month-end and year-end activities. This role acts as the link between the transactional accounting staff (AP, AR, payroll clerk) and senior leadership.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing a team in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities Operational Oversight
Manage day-to-day accounting operations for 15+ entities, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
Supervise Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff, monitoring workloads and deadlines.
Review vendor invoices, reconciliations, and payment runs prepared by AP staff.
Oversee AR cash application, reconciliations, and deposit tracking.
Ensure payroll inputs and reconciliations are accurate and delivered on time.
Month-End & Year-End Support
Prepare and review reconciliations (bank, credit cards, balance sheet accounts).
Consolidate monthly packages for Controller review.
Support intercompany reconciliations and adjustments.
Assist with year-end working papers and auditor requests.
Process & Controls
Maintain and enforce accounting policies, controls, and procedures.
Identify inefficiencies in AP/AR workflows and recommend improvements.
Ensure proper documentation of processes in
Trainual
to create departmental consistency.
Leadership & Development
Provide guidance, training, and feedback to AP/AR staff.
Allocate workload to ensure deadlines are consistently met.
Act as first point of escalation for staff issues before involving Controller.
Build a culture of accuracy, accountability, and teamwork.
Collaboration
Work closely with the Controller / Finance Manager to ensure smooth month-end close.
Liaise with store managers and Territory Managers on transaction or deposit discrepancies.
Provide status updates on AP/AR and other accounting operations to leadership.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibility.
Experience in a
multi-entity environment
strongly preferred.
Proficiency with accounting software;
NetSuite experience highly valued
.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills (reconciliations, reporting, pivot tables).
Knowledge of Canadian GAAP and tax compliance (GST/PST).
Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
