Position Summary
The Accounting Manager supports the Director of Finance in managing the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department at SPLC, including payroll, general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
Responsibilities
Overall responsibility includes monthly preparation of financial statements and government reports and working directly with the Director to ensure internal control measures and ministry policies are adhered to.
This will include reviewing current processes and developing or enhancing processes, policies, and procedures.
Core Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Support the Director in annual preparation of audit to include preparing working papers and providing information as requested
Prepares timely and accurate completion of monthly internal financial statements and government reports.
Leads and performs monthly, quarterly and year-end closing including account reconciliations and analysis Leads and performs monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings, including account reconciliations and financial analysis.
Responsible for preparing monthly closing entries, e.g. deferred revenue, allocation entries, intercompany invoices and expense reports
Prepares quarterly and annual information for Federal and Provincial governments (HST, WSIB, Tax returns)
Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures and regulations
Maintain confidential files, including timely filing of all documents pertaining to required changes
Ensures accounts receivable and payable activities are performed accurately and timely
Liaises with the other departmental supervisors to address and resolve issues relating to financial reporting, Receivables and Payables
Provides detailed financial analysis and ad-hoc reports as required
Provides back up to other staff in areas as needed
Education
: Completion of Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in Business, Finance, or Accounting
Active Accounting Designation, (CMA, CGA, CPA)
Experience & Skills
A minimum of 4-5 years progressive accounting experience, including supervisory roles either from a public accounting firm or Not for Profit
Experience motivating, guiding and developing a team of accountants
Experience managing the accounting and month end close process including analysis and interpretation of financial information
Strong computer literacy skills with Microsoft Office and advanced level Excel skill (pivots, v-lookups, and advanced formulas) and accounting software (Great Plains).
Previous experience in a non-profit and/or healthcare organization is preferred.
Must have demonstrated proficiency in Great Plains, Sage 300 - all modules and Cash management
Strong background in audit, internal controls and working in a non-profit sector/Ministry funded organization
Excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts
Ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time/tasks effectively
Must be flexible with hours and have the ability to work occasional additional hours when required to meet strict deadlines
Self-started that take initiative and able to work with a high degree of independence utilizing tact and good judgement
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
Able to work at the site every day
Ability to speak a second language an asset
