Position Overview
This is a unique opportunity to join the rapidly growing Toronto office of Beedie, Western Canada's largest industrial developer and landlord. The expansion to Eastern Canada is entering a new phase of growth that requires a local finance leader to help partner and grow with the business. The right candidate will be a natural leader who has a strategic mindset and can effectively partner across the business.
The Accounting Manager will lead a team and oversee all aspects of the accounting operations of the Toronto office, including asset management, property management, construction and development, and the associated reporting to ownership, partners and clients. This role will collaborate closely with the BC based accounting and finance leadership team to develop and align processes, internal controls, and deliverables in a manner that meets the unique needs of the Toronto office, while maintaining the appropriate level of consistency across the Group. In this role, the Accounting Manager will provide decision support across the Toronto office and work closely with the business leaders to help advance their objectives across Eastern Canada and our Asset Management platform.
General Accounting and Reporting
Oversee full cycle accounting for properties, projects and the respective LP/JV/Corporate entities
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all internal and external reporting deliverables, including audit preparation
Review monthly draws and reporting; liaise with lenders, partners and clients as required
Ensure financial reporting, including audit preparation and partner reporting as required
Review accounting entries, working papers, variance analyses, and financial statements, ensuring adherence to ASPE, IFRS, and REALpac standards
Coordinate with the BC-based finance team to ensure consistency and integrity of accounting records, processes, and controls
Support the year-end audit process and liaise with external auditors as needed
Decision Support
Act as the financial leader for the Eastern Canadian business in cross-functional meetings and initiatives
Provide financial insights and decision support to asset management, project and property management teams, including lease analysis, property assessments, budget reviews, and tax minimization strategies
Support business analysis and financial modeling for Eastern Canada-based initiatives
Identify opportunities to add value through a deep understanding of lease, asset, and project requirements
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of Eastern Canadian accounting operations in collaboration with subject-specific accounting managers
Budgeting and Forecasting
Support the Group corporate budgeting process by overseeing the Eastern Canadian operations, projects and properties
Forecasting, variance analysis and cost controls for projects/properties
Conduct variance analysis and prepare executive presentations for Eastern Canadian operations
Support the cash flow forecasting and scenario planning for Eastern Canadian projects and operations
Team Leadership
Supervise, mentor, and develop a team in the Toronto office
Promote a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Assign and review work, ensuring team members are equipped with the tools and training needed to succeed
Collaborate with the BC-based finance teams to ensure alignment and support strategic initiatives
Desired Skills and Experience
CPA designation and 6+ years of progressive experience, preferably with direct or indirect exposure to real estate or asset management
Proven track record of leading and developing a team
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Strategic mindset
Ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute effectively in a team environment
Strong understanding of ASPE, IFRS and REALpac standards
High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Yardi and Caseware is an asset
