You could take responsibility for an accounting and clerical department at a successful company, through Robert Half\'s new Controller opportunity. Based in the Waterloo, Ontario area, this opening for a Controller is a permanent position. Responsibilities include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. Candidates who know how to effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services will do well in this role along with creative types who can lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. How you will make an impact

- Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation

- Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed

- Occasionally perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

- Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

- Time monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is punctual

- Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

- Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash

- Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis

- Reviews deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

- Each month, present executive committee and partners with financial reports

- Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis
- Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment

- Expertise in Prepare Trial Balance

- Well-founded grasp of Business Banking Relationship

- Solid understanding of month end closings

- Deep understanding of budget forecasting

- Experience with Government Remittances

- General familiarity with Invoice Payment

- Proven knowledge of treasury

- Practical knowledge of Invoice

- Foundational knowledge in financial statement preparation

- Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills

- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

- Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills

- CPA or MBA preferred

- Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required

- Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

- Excellent attention to detail

- Top notch analytical, quantitative and social skills

- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

- Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued

- Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines
