Accounting Manager
to join our team.
Position Summary:
The Accounting Manager will be responsible for full-cycle accounting, interim financial reporting, cost accounting, and oversight of the accounting clerk. This role requires a detail-oriented, proactive individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. The role also includes supporting acquisition integration activities as the company continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare monthly and quarterly interim financial statements and internal reports
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
Perform financial analysis and provide insights on variances and performance trends
Team Oversight
Supervise and support the accounting clerk responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
Review transactions and ensure timely, accurate day-to-day accounting operations
Cost Accounting
Manage the maintenance of the standard costing system, including bills of materials, variance reporting, and inventory control
Analyze cost of goods sold (COGS), production margins, and variances
Support the quoting and evaluation of new business opportunities through cost modeling and profitability analysis
Month-End and Year-End Close
Own and manage the month-end close process
Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
Coordinate with the external accounting firm in the preparation of year-end financials (Notice to Reader)
Compliance & Internal Controls
Ensure compliance with all tax, remittance, and regulatory requirements (HST, payroll, WSIB, etc.)
Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts
Support financial modeling and cash flow projections
Acquisition Integration
Support the financial due diligence, onboarding, and systems integration of acquired businesses
Assist in aligning accounting policies and procedures across newly acquired entities
Systems & Process Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of financial systems and workflows
Participate in or lead accounting system enhancements or implementations as needed
Qualifications:
CPA designation (or in-progress) strongly preferred
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in manufacturing or distribution
Solid understanding of ASPE and cost accounting principles
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Excel
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
