DESCRIPTION:

The ATCO Group has an exciting employment opportunity for an Accounting Co-op Student to join our Calgary or Edmonton office for a four- or eight-month co-op term, within the oversight of our Pre-Approved CPA Program. This role provides the unique opportunity of gaining valuable accounting work experience in industry, while obtaining first-hand knowledge of the steps required to obtain your CPA designation after graduation. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, and technology adept Co-op Student to join our team, who intends on obtaining their CPA designation post-graduation.

The successful Accounting Co-op Students will join one of our CPA Program rotations over their work term (in Internal Controls or Public Company Reporting), in either Calgary or Edmonton, which is a great steppingstone into the formal CPA Program post-graduation.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO:

ATCO CPA Pre-Approved Program Introduction

ATCO\'s CPA Pre-Approved Program provides its CPA Candidates with 30 months of practical work experience required to attain the CPA designation after their post-secondary studies through various pre-approved rotations, as well as financial support for completing the education requirements in the CPA Western School of Business Professional Education Program (\xe2\x80\x9cPEP\xe2\x80\x9d) and Common Final Examination (\xe2\x80\x9cCFE\xe2\x80\x9d).

The Accounting Co-op Student will preview one of our rotations over a four- or eight-month co-op term and explore the benefits of an industry-based CPA designation. The Co-op Student will also receive focused support and mentorship throughout the duration of their work term including participating with our current Pre-Approved CPA Candidates in a variety of activities, including monthly meetings and workshops.

Sample of Responsibilities:

A sample of responsibilities during the co-op term could include the following:

  • Performing:
  • testing of internal controls over financial reporting (C-SOX) or internal controls over ESG reporting
  • Preparing and analyzing:
  • audit packs and various support schedules
  • financial statements including note disclosures
  • Evaluating / reviewing:
  • accounting policies and procedures
  • apply knowledge of IFRS and GAAP

WHO YOU ARE:
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment, strong attention to detail, exercising discretion, judgment, diplomacy, and confidentiality
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills that enable you to present identified problems and facilitate problem resolution
  • Strong problem solving, creative thinking, and analytical skills
  • Particularly good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • In progress for a bachelor\'s degree in accounting (with a plan to obtain all CPA PEP pre-requisite courses)
  • Successful academic record - university transcripts (required***)
  • Ability to produce results with accuracy and quality
  • Work well under pressure in a rapidly changing environment

Applicants must demonstrate they are on track to graduate and meet the qualifications outlined by CPA Alberta for admission to the CPA Western School of Business (CPAWSB) Professional Education Program (PEP) by the completion of their degree. University transcripts are required on all applications (unofficial transcript are acceptable).
