Ummah Society is seeking a qualified and dedicated
Accounting Clerk
to join our team. This individual will be responsible for managing the financial records of
Ummah Society
and its associated entities: the
Maritime Muslim Academy (MMA)
,
Ummah Masjid & Community Center (UMCC)
, and the
Atlantic Muslim Resource Centre (AMRC)
.
This is a full-time position that offers a competitive salary, flexible working hours, and medical coverage.
Required Qualifications:
Post-secondary education in Business Administration, preferably with a focus on Accounting
Minimum of 3 years' experience in bookkeeping or accounting
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
Proficiency in accounting software (experience with
Sage
is preferred)
High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and recordkeeping
Strong organizational and time management skills
Analytical thinking and strong reconciliation abilities
Experience in payroll processing and understanding of payroll regulations
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Professional, dependable, and punctual work ethic
Understanding of non-profit bookkeeping practices
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality with financial information
Assets (Preferred Qualifications):
Experience working with faith-based or community organizations
CPA designation or currently pursuing CPA
PCP designation or currently pursuing PCP
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate and timely financial records and tax filings
Perform full-cycle bookkeeping: accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and petty cash management
Follow up on overdue accounts and assess risk of default
Prepare and process payroll, including wages, deductions, and remittances
Conduct account analysis and reconcile discrepancies
Participate in budgeting and financial forecasting
Prepare monthly financial statements and reports for the Board of Directors
Assist in the preparation of year-end financial statements and annual returns
Liaise with the Treasurer as needed for reporting and compliance
Recommend and implement process improvements for financial efficiency
Perform additional related duties as assigned
