Founded by students in 2019, NAT has engaged thousands of participants through hackathons, workshops, and partnerships across Canada and beyond.

Position Overview



The Accounting Associate supports NAT's financial operations by maintaining accurate records, tracking expenses, and assisting with budgeting and reporting. This role is ideal for a student interested in accounting, finance, or nonprofit administration who wants hands-on experience managing real-world financial systems.

You'll work closely with the Finance & Administration team to ensure smooth day-to-day processes, transparency, and compliance. The role offers opportunities to build technical and organizational skills while contributing to a growing nonprofit.

This position is contingent on funding through the TECHNATION Career Ready Program.

Key Responsibilities



Financial Recordkeeping



Record and categorize daily transactions and reimbursements Maintain organized digital records for all financial activity Support monthly reconciliations and reporting

Budgeting & Reporting



Help prepare expense summaries and budget trackers Assist with financial data analysis for grants and events Support the preparation of reports for management and funders

Accounts Payable & Receivable



Track invoices, payments, and reimbursements Communicate with vendors, staff, and partners regarding payment status Help ensure timely processing and accurate documentation

Process Development & Compliance



Contribute to improving internal finance procedures and templates Support compliance with funding and wage subsidy requirements Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in all financial matters

Skills & Competencies



Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy Clear written and verbal communication Organized, reliable, and self-motivated Comfortable working with spreadsheets and financial software Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Tools and Technologies



Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Drive) QuickBooks Desktop (training provided) Gmail, Slack, Google Meet

QualificationsRequired



Experience with basic bookkeeping or financial recordkeeping Strong spreadsheet and data entry skills Interest in accounting, finance, or nonprofit administration

Preferred



Familiarity with QuickBooks Understanding of budgets and/or grant reporting Experience working in an administrative or finance support role

Working Conditions



This is a hybrid position based in Edmonton. The student is expected to work in person 1-2 days per week and be available for key project milestones.

Eligibility Requirements



Due to funding requirements, to be eligible, applicants must:

Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee. Be enrolled in a post-secondary institution at the time of application and remain enrolled for at least the first thirty days of the internship.
