Accounting Assistant ~ Full-time Permanent Position
1.0 FTE - 35 hours per week
Division Office - Nisku, AB
The Accounting Assistant provides vital support to the Finance Department by ensuring accurate financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance with division and provincial requirements. This role also supports schools directly by assisting with Rycor and SGF processes, training, and day-to-day financial inquiries.
Key Responsibilities
:
Review School Generated Funds (SGF) financial reports for compliance, accuracy, and consistency
Prepare and process journal entries for Division Office and schools, ensuring proper documentation and coding
Reconcile Rycor deposits to the Division's main operating bank account and reconcile school bank accounts
Provide mentorship on Rycor Software: implement new features, deliver training, troubleshoot issues, and assist school secretaries with day-to-day Rycor and SGF questions
Develop training materials and deliver sessions for school staff, including new secretarial staff
Maintain the SGF chart of accounts and create new general ledger accounts as needed
Perform income statements reconciliations to help schools balance their school generated funds
Monitor, balance, and reconcile unpaid school fee collections to ensure accuracy and proper reporting
Facilitate preparation and filing of GST returns
Conduct audits of school fundraising societies, as requested
Support other duties and projects as assigned by the Senior Accountant and Director of Finance
Qualifications:
Diploma in Finance or Business Administration with a focus on Accounting is preferred
Previous accounting experience considered an asset
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, tools, formatting) with solid data analysis skills
Comfortable working in both Windows and Google environments
High attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency in financial record-keeping
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a busy environment
Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, and organizational skills
Team-oriented with a commitment to collaboration, respect, and integrity
Willingness to continually develop technical knowledge and skills
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and support schools and colleagues effectively
Salary/Benefits:
Full-time, 12-month permanent position
Salary commensurate with training and experience (Pay Level 3: $51,846 - $67,478)
