Your Opportunity
Under the limited direction of the Manager, Financial Services, the Accounting Analyst is responsible for providing exceptional client service to the College community and external stakeholders with respect to analysis and maintenance of the College's accounting functions. This includes, but is not limited to, auditing and processing financial transactions; auditing and processing cashiering sessions; reconciling accounts and/or analyzing and balancing general ledger funds and accounts then taking the corrective actions as required; preparing reports and schedules; calculating ratios and monitoring variances.


Functions and Duties
1. Compile, analyze, evaluate and interpret financial data and information, identify trends and anomalies, take corrective action or make recommendations for changes and improvements. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Preparing fund and account reconciliations Monitoring and reporting variances and calculating ratios Investigating and taking action to post miscellaneous currency transactions and completing the departmental deposit.
2. Review and audit transactions in accordance with Okanagan College's policies and procedures, provides recommendations and adjustments. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Auditing and processing cashiering sessions Auditing and processing journal entries from various departments Auditing and processing internal charge backs
3. Provide support and guidance to cashiers and cash supervisors as required.


4. Produce and review management statements to ensure adherence to policy, contractual obligations, and accounting controls. Investigate any unusual transactions, taking corrective action or making recommendations.


5. Assist with preparation of internal and external reports, provides recommendations and adjustments.


6. Assists with the preparation of interim and year-end audit information including preparation of schedules and other supporting documentation.


7. Maintain accounting files.


8. Provide back-up and support to other analysts in the Financial Services Department.


9. Participates on assigned committees or projects to provide departmental input and support.


10. Provide administrative and operational support to the Finance Management Team.


11. Maintains current knowledge of accounting theory and best practices within the post-secondary system.


12. Performs other related duties as required.


Education and Experience
Completion of secondary school (Grade 12) or equivalent and graduation from a two-year university or community college accounting program or equivalent. Over 2 years and up to and including 4 years.


Skills and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of accounting theory, auditing procedures and internal controls
- Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define and solve problems which may be of a sensitive nature
- Ability to exercise initiative, self-development, good judgment and critical thinking
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and Finance systems to generate and analyze reports and to resolve difficulties with computer input and retrieval; aptitude for learning and working with new systems and software
- Ability to monitor, recommend and take action on issues that may have considerable contractual, legal and operational implications
- Exceptional listening and professional communication skills with internal and external contacts, focused on tact and diplomacy
- Proven ability to work well under pressure; manage work volume and changing priorities and to meet organizational deadlines
- Works effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to adapt and collaborate with others through organizational change and development
- Attention to detail and accuracy

Schedule


20 hours per week between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm. Exact schedule to be determined.


Annual Salary/Hourly Rate $30.74 - $35.07/hr
Appointment Type Support - Non-Regular Part-time
