Overview:
Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Financial Operations, the Functional Accounting Analyst plays a key role in ensuring the financial sub-leger systems are accurate to support the Enterprise Resource Plan (ERP) by representing Finance within the Agile Release Train (ART) to achieve the project objectives and ultimately meet the corporation strategic goals.


The Functional Accounting Analyst is responsible for engaging and communicating with key team members cross-functionally including Organizational Change Management, Information Security Office, various departments in both the Information & Technology and Customer and Product Value divisions, KMS Technical Writing and Solutions along with other key groups within the Corporation.


Working in a matrix reporting style and team environment, the Functional Accounting Analyst identifies and maintains business requirements to resolve complex business financials problems with the use of technical accounting, resulting in new or improved products and services for accurate financial report output within the source system sub-legers with supporting integrations to the ERP. This role works directly with the Agile Teams in the preparation of supporting documentation for operational and project needs, such as business cases, cost benefit analysis, feasibility studies, business use cases and business rules, business vision and operational support models, user stories and product backlog items. The position also provides input into project planning, implementation strategies, communication strategies, training strategies, conversion strategies, procedures, and quality assurance and systems analysis activities.


The position understands the financial accounting system and its source sub-ledger systems, the chart of accounts as it applies to each source system sub-ledger, accounting policies and standards to ensure procedures developed for training and use by staff maintain control of the various functions. Analysis of issues and risk identification will require recommendations and escalation to management to be addressed while championing best practice methodology. Responsibilities:
  • Participate in developing documentation of business requirements and specifications for changes and enhancements to systems or products.
  • Develop solutions for complex initiatives and business problems within the source system through detailed analysis and design while ensuring support for governance.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports and presentations outlining findings and recommendations.
  • Support project implementation in the capacity of business lead representing Finance.
  • Oversee or liaise in the planning and development of associated rules and procedures, documentation, and training with the impacted business areas with Finance.
  • Participate in developing detailed project plans and documentation including processes and collaborates with subject matter experts (SMEs) and team members to set project direction and meet project deliverables.
  • Represent Finance on Agile Teams supporting various operational requests and business processes.
  • Facilitate effective communication between business stakeholders and technology resources.
  • Translate moderately complex business/technology information into simple, clear, and accurate language to ensure understanding by technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Gather requirements by facilitating meetings, interviewing, and collaborating with stakeholders and SMEs to ensure business requirements are clear, concise, and relevant.
  • Lead complex initiatives to analyze current behaviour, gather and validate requirements, and perform impact assessments while reducing manual effort with the use of workarounds and continuously considering process improvements.
  • Support quality assurance and systems analysis to ensure that the product and/or service meet all functional and compliance requirements.
  • Validate solutions meet the business need and provide the expected business value to stakeholders (internal and external), including account reconciliations via business process with supporting financial report outputs.


Qualifications:
  • Three years of related experience in the following areas:
    • Business systems analysis across multiple business processes, conducting process analysis, documenting business requirements, including coordinating and leading related initiatives and projects.
    • Accounting experience, including experience in full cycle accounting.
  • Certificate or diploma in Business Analysis or a related discipline.
  • CPA Program \xe2\x80\x93 Completion of PEP, Core 1 and 2, Capstone 1 and 2.
  • Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA), Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA), or Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) designation is an asset.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation is an asset.
  • Education in project management is an asset.
  • Intermediate knowledge of business processes and supporting systems.
  • Solid communication skills (verbal, written and group presentation skills) to communicate complicated technical issues and solutions in a clear, concise, and understandable manner for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Advanced analysis, problem solving, investigative, and critical thinking skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial information systems and software applications with a focus on financial reporting.
