The Opportunity - Accountant, Lumber Operations
Under the direction of the Controller, the Accountant plays a key role in assisting with the financial management of the Lumber Operations. The Accountant will be responsible for general accounting functions, including preparing financial statements, cost reports, reconciliations, and financial analysis, while maintaining internal controls to mitigate asset risk. This is done with the values of integrity, transparency, and professionalism, while ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and safety.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with the Lumber Operations and Sinclar Finance Team
Provide service to both internal and external stakeholders on all matters pertaining to Finance in particular, and other Administration functions as necessary.
Participate in budgeting and forecasting.
Participate in the annual financial audit.
Participate in weekly/monthly cost reviews against budget and KPI's.
Prepare the monthly financial statements.
Prepare Balance Sheet reconciliations each month and bring material adjustment recommendations forward for discussion.
Analyze finance and operational information and communicate results.
Participate in and lead projects related to business continuous improvement.
Understand and apply intermediate accounting concepts and theories to current and new business activities.
Incorporate and uphold principles of internal controls into all activities.
Assist in developing, implementing, and enforcing accounting policies, procedures, and standards, and recommend changes to accounting procedures as needed.
Work with the management team to help ensure compliance with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the Company.
Perform other financial duties, tasks, and projects, as required.
Qualifications and Education
Two years' experience with increasing financial responsibility
Lumber industry experience is an asset.
Proven commitment to a safety-first culture
Degree and/or enrolled in CPA.
Requires a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Exhibits strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to maintain a comfortable rapport with stakeholders.
Demonstrates curiosity and strong problem solving, critical thinking and decision making skills.
Highly organized with an ability to prioritize workload and meet demanding deadlines.
Demonstrates strong knowledge Microsoft Office skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central is an asset.
