Group 11 - $31.79 to $39.50 per hour (Subject to Review)

This position is eligible to work remotely on a part-time basis (Note: Must be able to report to a City of Greater Sudbury work location on short notice).
Main Function:
Reporting to the Co-ordinator of Finance, this position is responsible to perform accounting functions to maintain the general ledger and revenue and expenditure statements for funds related to the assigned operational areas.
Duties:
1. Reconcile, review, and prepare detailed analysis of general ledger accounts; prepare journal entries and forward to Accounting for processing, as required.
2. Initiate and assist with the month-end/year-end closing procedures, working papers, and completion of provincial/federal financial reporting.
3. Process operational invoices for approval, payment and costing in accordance with applicable policies and by-laws.
4. Communicate with vendors regarding contracts, invoices and processes to ensure compliance with City of Greater Sudbury (CGS) contracts.
5. Prepare, reconcile, review, and summarize reports prepared for internal and external stakeholders. Identify issues, develop recommendations, and provide training to ensure reports are completed accurately in accordance with CGS, provincial, and federal policies and requirements. Follow up regarding late, incomplete, or inaccurate reports and report issues to the Co-ordinator of Finance.
6. Input information required for preparation of payroll for employees of various CGS divisions as required.
7. Maintain contact with the Human Resources Division regarding temporary changes in employee status, benefits, and other related matters.
8. Maintain timekeeping records of employees, e.g. vacation, absences, etc.
9. Record occupational injuries and illnesses for employees and maintain associated records.
10. Distribute employee pay stubs.
11. Review and prepare expense claims for external funding.
12. Perform regular reviews and audits of Cityworks data and the general ledger to ensure data integrity and completeness.
13. Assist with the year-end inventory count. Review and reconcile inventoried items in the Storeroom.
14. Lead and support process improvement projects.
15. Assist in special projects as required.
16. Assist in Business Case development as required.
17. Provide financial technical support for the assigned operational area.
18. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
19. Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Community College diploma in a related discipline (i.e., Accounting, Business Administration or related program) from a recognized college with Canadian accreditation.
Over two and one-half (2) years up to and including five (5) years of related accounting experience.
Knowledge of applicable legislation and related regulations.
Knowledge of municipal finance function.
Ability to process accounting transactions.
Demonstrate and proven ability related to Microcomputer software and administrative systems in a Windows environment (e.g., spreadsheet applications, file maintenance, word processing, information input and retrieval, etc.).
Ability to demonstrate effective interpersonal and communications skills and ability to deal with the public in a courteous and effective manner.
Demonstrate organizational and analytical skills.
Ability to function in a team environment.
Satisfactory health, attendance, and former employment history.
Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
French verbal skills highly desirable; written skills an asset.
Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's licence, have an acceptable driving record, and personal insurance coverage.
