Job Description

The Lifesaving Society Ontario is a full-service provider of programs, products and services designed to prevent drowning. We save lives and prevent water-related injury through our training programs, Water Smart public education, drowning prevention research, aquatic safety management and lifesaving sport. Each year, more than 1,000,000 Canadians participate in the Society's swimming, lifesaving, lifeguarding and leadership programs.

We are currently seeking an Accountant to join the Lifesaving Society's Finance department. The Lifesaving Society offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



1. Petty Cash

Maintain and reconciles petty cash float as required.
2. Accounts receivable:

Applies payments (EFT, E-transfers, Cheques, Credit/Debit, Online payment and cash) to customer accounts Prepares, reconciles and deposits funds to the bank. On approvals, prepares debit notes and internal credits as required. On approval prepares and processes all adjustments for transaction to correct errors. Assist with receivable collections and identifying potential bad debts Prepares month-end AR closing and aging report Reconciles monthly aging reports to general ledger
3. Posts sales transactions to AR Sub-ledger and General Ledger including:

Awards, merchandise and service invoices. Sales returns, A/R adjustments. Payments on account.
4. Bank reconciliation:

Verify bank reconciliation summary to TD bank, Bambora and Elavon daily and monthly statements. Ensures adequate cash balances by reconciling monthly bank statements for TD bank accounts Trouble-shoot and solve problems or discrepancies with bank transaction entries and GL postings
5. Account Payable:

Prepares month-end AP aging report. Reconciles monthly aging report to general ledger Trouble-shoot and solve problems or discrepancies with vendors
6. Prepares calculations and reports using an Excel spreadsheet and Great Plains reporting tools as required. (e.g. Monthly cash float analysis)

7. Assist invoicing and payable clerks in trouble shooting and answering technical accounting inquiries

8. Responds to routine inquiries verbally and in writing.

9. Active in supporting year-end audits covering areas of accounting that are assigned

10. Develop and maintain positive relationships with other agencies related to accounting issues

11. Work in a team environment consistent with the Lifesaving Society culture of providing excellent products and services to customers.

12. Provide courteous and prompt customer service to all members and public.

13. Actively participate in maintaining a safe working environment.

Use common sense and think "safety in the execution of job responsibilities Maintain a hazard-free personal workspace Wear protective clothing and equipment where applicable. Report safety concerns and workplace injuries to the Health and Safety Committee immediately.
14. Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

The following knowledge, skills and experience will enable the selected applicant to successfully perform the major functions of the role:

A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Commerce is required. Equivalent professional certifications will be considered (e.g., CIMA, ACCA, CA, or CPA). Must have completed or be nearing completion of a recognized accounting designation. A minimum of 4-7 years of relevant accounting experience is required. Strong understanding of Accounting systems and processes. Proven ability to perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations Experience in preparing month-end AR closing and aging reports. Experience reconciling the monthly AR aging report to the General Ledger. Experience in preparing month-end AP aging reports and reconciling them to the General Ledger. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Proactive, highly motivated, and flexible approach to tasks and responsibilities. Organized, demonstrates a high level of accuracy, and strong attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Understands the importance of confidentiality surrounding sensitive financial information. Demonstrated commitment to providing courteous and prompt internal and external customer service. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience with Great Plains reporting tools is a significant asset.
