Legacy+ is seeking an analytical, detail-oriented Accountant, to join its Finance & Accounting team. The incumbent will report directly to the Director of Finance. The role is responsible for overseeing the financial operations and reporting activities of our US entity.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Accounts Receivable
Manage Invoicing and Collections: Prepare and issue accurate customer invoices, monitor outstanding accounts, and follow up with clients to ensure timely payments.
Reconcile Accounts: Maintain accurate records of receivables, reconcile account discrepancies, and resolve payment disputes in collaboration with the sales and finance teams.
Reporting & Compliance: Generate regular accounts receivable reports, track aging of receivables, and ensure compliance with internal financial policies and applicable accounting standards.
Accounts Payable
Invoice Processing and Payments: Review, verify, and process vendor invoices in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring appropriate approvals and compliance with company policies.
Vendor Management and Reconciliation: Maintain strong vendor relationships, respond to inquiries, and reconcile discrepancies between purchase orders, receipts, and invoices.
Expense Management and Reporting: Assist in preparing payment runs, maintain accurate records of accounts payable transactions, and support month-end closing by preparing accounts payable reports and reconciliations.
Reporting & Reconciliations
Prepare Monthly Financial Statements: Compile and review financial data to produce accurate and timely monthly financial statements, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow reports.
Variance Analysis and Reporting: Analyze monthly results against budgets and forecasts, prepare variance explanations, and deliver clear reporting packages to management and key stakeholders.
Perform Accurate Account Reconciliations: Prepare and complete timely reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and alignment with the general ledger.
Investigate and Resolve Discrepancies: Identify, analyze, and resolve any variances or reconciling items, coordinating with relevant departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Maintain Reconciliation Documentation: Ensure all reconciliations are well-documented, reviewed, and comply with internal controls and accounting policies for audit readiness.
Annual Audit & Tax
Audit Preparation and Documentation: Compile, organize, and provide supporting documentation for financial transactions, reconciliations, and year-end schedules required by external auditors.
Coordinate Audit Requests: Act as a liaison between auditors and internal departments, ensuring timely responses to audit queries and facilitating information flow.
Process and Compliance Review: Assist in reviewing accounting processes and controls for compliance with accounting standards and company policies, helping to address audit findings and implement improvements.
Prepare and File Tax Returns: Assist with the preparation, review, and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns in compliance with U.S. tax laws and regulations.
Tax Documentation and Compliance: Gather and maintain necessary tax documentation, ensure timely payment of tax liabilities, and support compliance with IRS and state tax authority requirements.
Support Tax Audits and Inquiries: Assist in responding to tax notices, audits, and inquiries from tax authorities.
Payroll
Payroll Processing: Accurately process semi-monthly payroll for U.S. employees, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and company policies.
Deductions and Benefits Administration: Manage payroll deductions including taxes, retirement contributions, health benefits, and garnishments; ensure accurate benefit reporting and withholding.
Reporting and Compliance: Prepare payroll-related reports, reconcile payroll accounts, and ensure timely filings of payroll taxes, W-2s, and other compliance reporting to IRS and state agencies.
Qualifications/Skills/Competencies
3-5 years' experience in an accounting role
Minimum University Degree or College Diploma in Accounting
Working knowledge of US GAAP and filing of US tax returns are required
Proficiency in payroll processing systems (e.g., ADP, Rippling) and strong understanding of U.S. payroll laws and tax regulations
Experience in Non-Profit accounting is highly desirable
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel skills), QuickBooks
Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail
Enthusiastic, team oriented and a quick leaner
Enrolment in the CPA program would be an asset
Excellent time management skills with ability to prioritize, manage large workload and meet tight deadlines
Travel requirements every quarter
