Job Description



Purpose
Reporting to Assistant Controller, this job is an integral contributor to ensuring the global group of companies\xe2\x80\x99 continued compliance with internal and external accounting policies, procedures, and regulations. As Rocky Mountaineer continues operating in a high growth phase, this role is a key partner to the company\xe2\x80\x99s financial leadership in both the planning and reporting cycles of the finance team (year end, quarter end, month end, weekly).
As a member of Accounting team, subgroup of the larger Finance team, this role is also responsible for participating other aspects of accounting and financial reporting functions of the group.
Key Areas of Accountability
Accounting Duties

  • Complete ownership of the accounting process for any of the assigned competency areas below
  • Solid understanding of ASPE guidance, accounting policy and operational processes in the business
o Customer deposits o Bank reconciliations o Intercompany transactions including revenue & expenses, loans and interest, entity allocations and consolidated account reconciliations o Indirect tax, other tax entries and filings o Accrued liabilities at corporate and department level o Recurring journal entries o Other RM-specific items
  • Ensure all working papers are clear, concise and organized
  • Highlight any system and process deficiencies and make recommendations for improvement

Financial Reporting
  • Analyze accounting data
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the entity-level business operations and financial reporting requirements
  • Provide supporting documentation and play an active role in addressing inquiries from the year end audit, tax and other audits

Other Requirements
  • Compile financial reporting information for internal and external stakeholders as required
  • Participate in other Finance or internal business projects as required

Qualifications
Education, Certification, Licenses
  • Completion of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field
  • Currently enrolled in or intention to enroll in the CPA accounting designation program

Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an Accounting or Finance team

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills with advanced Excel skills
