Office is located in Enderby, BC. If location is an issue, we have staff that make the commute daily from surrounding cities and car pooling is an option!

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY:



The Accountant position reports to the Controller and plays a vital role in ensuring the financial integrity and operational efficiency of SDC. This position provides essential support to the accounting and finance team by performing a variety of accounting functions, financial reporting, and project management system tasks. The role requires a detail-oriented professional with a strong accounting background, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Key responsibilities include assisting with financial statement preparation, maintaining accurate financial records, supporting accounts management, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. While primarily focused on accounting tasks, the role may occasionally provide support for payroll-related functions as needed.

The successful candidate will work from SDC's main office, contributing to a collaborative team environment and helping the organization achieve its financial objectives.

Technical Leadership and Execution (85%)



Accounting and Financial Reporting



Maintain complete and timely books and records including, but not limited to, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger month end entries. Process daily financial entries and intercompany reconciliations to ensure data accuracy. Prepare bank reconciliations for four companies. Record payments and adjustments promptly and accurately. Accurately enter invoices and process incoming payments in Accounts Receivable. Perform general ledger reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.

Payroll and Compliance Support



Assist with payroll processing as required, ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulations. Assist with WCB reporting, reconciliation, and claims.

Project Management System (PMS)



Manage PMS user access, billing rates, and expense codes to ensure proper configuration.

General Accounting and Support



Support the preparation of budgets and forecasts by providing accurate financial data. Assist with year-end audit preparation and liaise with external auditors as needed. Handle special projects, responsibilities, and other duties as assigned. Provide additional support to the Finance team as required to meet organizational goals.

Strategic Support (10%)



Assist with the preparation of financial reports and insights to support strategic planning. Collaborate on process improvements and the implementation of best practices to enhance efficiency.

People Support (5%)



Collaborate across departments to provide financial insights and support. Mentor team members on accounting processes when required. Foster a positive and professional work environment through effective communication and teamwork.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:



Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is preferred. Public accounting practice experience is an asset. A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in accounting or finance roles. Knowledge and experience working with a First Nations organization. Strong understanding of accounting principles, standards (e.g., GAAP/IFRS), and financial reporting requirements. Experience with general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and reconciliations. Knowledge of accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice entry, payment processing, and account management. Strong analytical skills to ensure the accuracy of financial records and reporting. Ability to handle complex financial data and ensure consistency across multiple systems and processes. Familiarity with budgeting and forecasting processes, supporting financial planning and analysis. Proven ability to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work under pressure.
