Job Summary

As a Shuttle Driver, you will be receiving pickup requests and answering questions about the program by phone, coordinating rides via online booking software, and ensuring good communication with other staff members. You will be picking up and dropping off of clients at designated shuttle stops while complying with UBC regulations regarding driving on campus, and communicating regularly with the dispatcher on shift.



Organizational Status
Working out of UBC's Centre for Accessibility, Accessibility Shuttle Divers will be taking part in a program that aims to promote accessibility on UBC's Point Grey campus. The shuttle assists people with conditions that impact their mobility accesses areas the UBC pedestrian-priority zone. The shuttle transports students, staff, faculty, and visitors between designated stops on campus. It runs year-round, typically from 8:00am to 7:30pm, and bookings are made in advance by phone.
This is an opportunity for students to gain valuable professional experience working with diverse clients and to be a part of a program that contributes to an inclusive campus culture. Successful candidates for this position are expected to be available for a minimum of one shift per week. Shifts are approximately four hours long. Please note that a valid class 5 driver's license or equivalent is mandatory.

Work PerformedCoordinate pickups and dispatch the shuttle Drive clients on designated shuttle route in a safe and professional manner Maintain visibility to students, faculty, and staff while driving on campus route Complete appropriate reports (shift, incident, and vehicle inspection reports) Ensure client confidentiality Ensure good communication with clients, program staff, and coordinator Assist in gathering client feedback, data, and promoting the service to the UBC and wider communities Actively uphold and promote the philosophy and integrity of the program; act in a professional manner Work closely with the Campus Accessibility Coordinator Maintain cleanliness of vehicle Other duties as assigned

Errors or decisions made will directly impact the mobility, accessibility and experience of UBC students, guests and staff which will directly affect the reputation of the unit and the University.

Preferred QualificationsRegistered UBC student and eligible to work in the upcoming academic year. Current Students in an Undergraduate Program, Current Students in a Masters Program, Current Students in a Phd Progra Available for a minimum of one shift per week between 8:30am-12:30pm and 12:30pm-4:30pm on weekdays Professional, responsible, and able to maintain composure under stress Outgoing, energetic, and flexible Good knowledge of the geographical layout of UBC campus Sincere interest in improving accessibility on UBC campus High level of interpersonal skills and sensitivity to people with disabilities Experience in customer service and working with people with disabilities are considered an asset Candidates must hold a valid class 5 driver's license or equivalent, submit a driver's abstract, pass a short written test and road test, and successfully complete training Logistics / coordinating skills Customer service, communication, and conflict management skills * Office experience
