About us:

The University of Toronto Libraries system is the largest academic library in Canada and is consistently ranked in the top ten among academic research libraries in North America. The system consists of 42 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of over 300 graduate programs, more than 70 professional programs, and about 700 undergraduate degree programs. In addition to more than 15 million volumes in 341 languages, the library system currently provides access to millions of electronic resources in various forms and over 31,000 linear metres of archival material. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired each year. The Libraries\' data centre houses more than 500 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes.

Your opportunity:

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Information Services, the Access Supervisor is responsible for supervising the 24x5 overnight service and maintaining a safe and secure environment. The incumbent is the primary point of contact regarding emergencies which occur in the building during the night shift and liaises with Campus Safety and Campus Trades (8-3000) as required. With the assistance of the building patrol staff, the Access Supervisor monitors the activities in the overnight service areas. Patrol staff report to this supervisor during the night shift. Hours of work will vary between day, evening, and night shifts. The incumbent will also work standard university hours from May to September, as well as other hours as required.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Applying established standards to control the distribution of access to designated University spaces
  • Responding to incidents and notifying appropriate staff, supervisors and/or authorities as required
  • Collating and organizing data for various reports
  • Tracking and collecting information on project progress
  • Troubleshooting routine equipment repairs
  • Liaising between clients and Facilities
  • Supervising non-USW bargaining unit employees
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years of related experience; at least two years in a supervisory capacity
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence with a solution-oriented focus
  • Decision-making capacity
  • Proven experience in resolving conflict
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, procedures and related regulations is essential
  • Ability to work as a team player is essential
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and follow-up
  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite of software

Assets (Nonessential):
  • Security Guard license issued by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services is an asset

Sunday - Thursday 10:45pm - 7:00am

May to August

Sun: 9:45am - 6:00pm

Mon: 8:45am - 5:00pm

Wed: 8:45am - 5:00pm

Thu: 3:00pm - 11:15pm
