About the opportunity:

We are looking for a Manager to join our Access Architecture and Engineering team. In this role, you will be partnering with multiple technical teams (Ting Fiber field operations, network deployment, backbone architecture, etc.) and product owners to build, optimize, and maintain highly available, access networks in Ting towns across the US with the goal of providing an outstanding customer experience. You will focus on reliability, responsiveness, security and resilience, will be able to drive the definition of future network architectures, and identify and evaluate key vendors and products that would support those architectures in the most efficient method.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for short-term project planning to meet long-term goals. Works with senior leadership and other managers to meet goals and provide business solutions.
  • Establishes the scope of projects, allocates the accurate resources, and supervises the progress. Provides status updates to senior management.
  • Provides development mentorship and opportunities for stretch roles to develop future leaders. Sets performance standards and holds team members accountable to standards.
  • Forecasts needed resources such as vendors, technologies, consultants, staffing needs, and training for the team to accomplish business objectives.
  • Provide vital budget forecasting and periodic updates.
  • Guide the research, evaluation and recommendation of new network systems and services.
  • Recommend and plan use of new system features and hardware to improve overall operations and efficiency of staff.
  • Provides direction in selection, deployment and use of access technologies including PON, G.hn, G.fast, Metro Ethernet, cellular backhaul, and WiFi and will also focus on network visibility, network automation, monitoring and alerting.
  • Ensure all staff is provided with training and resources needed to perform their jobs to the most outstanding degree possible.
  • Encourage new insights from staff to foster improvements through innovations.
  • Empower staff to be accountable and responsible for their own actions and decisions.
  • Work closely with SMEs from business partner teams to deliver reliable network services.
  • Develop network monitoring metrics for reporting reliability and performance of the network infrastructure.
  • Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability through proactive replacement of legacy infrastructure.
  • Monitor and test system and application performance for issues, identify possible solutions, and work with partners to implement those fixes.
  • Provide escalation of last resort to support major operational production issues.
  • Mentor team members to be phenomenal problem solvers and provide outstanding customer service.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability leading projects and running an infrastructure or engineering team preferably in a service provider environment.
  • Experience with GPON or XGS-PON access technologies.
  • Experience guiding teams to reach creative solutions to sophisticated problems.
  • Accustomed to crafting, completing and adjusting a plan with a high degree of independence.
  • Experience looking beyond current processes to identify process improvements.
  • Must be willing to make recommendations and challenge upwards when appropriate for the best interest of the company and customers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively translate complex topics to non-technical individuals.
This role is 100% remote, hours are reasonably flexible, and minimal travel may be expected. Members of the team are located typically in the North American time zones, although peer teams have members in CET. While not typical, it is possible to occasionally have meetings with other teams outside of a typical workday schedule. The base salary range for this position is $89,850 - $105,700. Range shown in $USD for US residents. Other countries will differ. Range may vary on a number of factors including, but not limited to: location, experience and qualifications.
