Working for the Department

The Alberta Advanced Manufacturing International Hub (AbAMI Hub) is an Alberta Innovates-funded technology ecosystem and network of Alberta research and innovation providers, collaborating with diverse research and industry partners provincially and globally, to catalyze the advancement of manufacturing technologies in Alberta. Led by the University of Alberta and InnoTech Alberta, this industry-informed Hub will address critical issues relating to limited exposure of Alberta industry to new, cutting-edge manufacturing technologies, support for industry in the adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies, and the need for improved efficiency, productivity, revenue growth, and job creation/retention in the Province.

The unique novelty of the AbAMI Hub lies in its immediate and direct connections to international research partners and other established Hubs in global manufacturing networks in developed and emerging economies. It has assembled an international team of experts in a network to fast-track unrealized manufacturing technology solutions for industry. Through a concierge "one-stop-shop" approach for industry, the AbAMI Hub creates mutually beneficial partnerships that generate new ideas in manufacturing technologies, secures and leverages revenue, supports the training and professional development of people, and establishes pathways for sustainability and profitability of local Alberta manufacturing companies and industry end-users. This multinational Alberta-led Hub project is framed around three pillars: (i) Industry-informed Research; (ii) Technology Deployment with Industry; and (iii) Manufacturing Sector Workforce Development. Focusing on these three pillars ensures that research addresses gaps in heavy industry manufacturing technology development, technology deployment with Alberta industry partners guarantees robust integration of ideas from key international advanced manufacturing centres and the industry sector, and workforce development will support creation and expansion of industry upskilling platforms. Further information about the Hub can be found in our Information Brochure and Hub Video.
