Job purpose



Keeping safety at the forefront, the 4th Class Operating Engineer Operators will monitor the boiler system during operation and attend to any additional problems. The primary duties of this position are ensuring safe, uninterrupted operations of mechanical and utilities systems.

Duties and responsibilities



Open building and follow boiler start up procedure. Unlock exterior of building and follow open-up procedure. Perform periodic preventive maintenance (scheduled and unscheduled) on equipment and systems as required. Monitor the water level in the boiler, and chemicals to tank by using all safety and PPE equipment Perform all assigned work while ensuring professional workmanship and full compliance with standard safety codes and practices and follow all lock-out and tag procedure. Answer production calls for maintenance. Report any problems directly to the supervisor and document in the boiler log. Follow shift engineers weekly schedule. General labour and maintenance as required. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications



Minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job:



This position requires a 4th Class Operating Engineer Certificate with some experience in an Industrial environment. Ability to comply with proper Ontario health and safety regulations Comfortable working with minimal supervision Strong communication skills Demonstrate problem solving skills and good work practices. Provide clear and concise verbal and written communication Knowledge of all general building systems with regard to their installation, operation and preventive maintenance and long term performance Must be able to successfully function within a team environment Reliable and willing to be flexible

Working conditions



May work in extreme hot or cold temperatures (indoors or outdoors) Must be flexible. Hours of work may vary. Some weekends and early mornings as required. Loud noises

Physical requirements



The ability to quickly respond to process upsets. The ability to exert significant muscle force to lift push, pull, or carry objects Must be able to push and/or pull up to 50 lbs The ability to negotiate different areas of the plant, including climbing stairs and ladders, and moving around barriers, frequent standing, bending, twisting, crawling, kneeling, squatting, climbing, reaching and grasping
