Job Summary
Reporting to the Central Plant Manager/Chief Operating Engineer, the incumbent will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all machinery and equipment associated with the making and maintaining of ice in the Oulton Stanish Events Center.
Key Responsibilities
Operates all arena equipment in a safe and efficient manner, including Zamboni and Ice Edger
Maintains ice in good condition
Performs routine equipment inspections to ensure equipment is operating properly and efficiently
Identifies and reports safety hazards
Identifies and logs equipment and operating problems
Performs and/or co-ordinates preventive maintenance and repairs on arena equipment to ensure reliable operation
Completes inspections and log sheets on scheduled intervals
Completes the daily logbook entries each shift as required
Maintains a clean work environment
Monitors and operates equipment and controls systems as required and directed
Performs all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as University and government rules and regulations
Performs other duties as required
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
Valid 3rd Class Power Engineer License (or) Valid Second (2nd) Class Refrigeration Operator's Certificate (Standardized) or equivalent as issued by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour
RFANS Arena Operator Level 1 Course
Three to five years recent and related experience in arena operation and maintenance, including Zamboni and Ice Edger
Ability to read and interpret blueprints/drawings
Familiar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as University and Government rules and regulations
Knowledge in the use of microcomputers preferred
Ability to take direction and work flexible hours
Reliable and punctual
Good communication and organizational skills
Knowledge of the tools of the trade
Must be willing and able to work shift work and overtime, as required
General safety, Fall Protection and WHMIS an asset
Must be capable of working alone
