What you'll do:





The Senior Communications Officer reports to the Head of Communications. the Senior Communications Officer is responsible for advancing CASO's internal and external communications agendas through the provision of strategic communications planning and advice, product development, stakeholder engagement, and digital content creation and management.



The Senior Communications Officer is occasionally expected to be available to work irregular hours which may include evenings and weekends in order to meet the objectives of the marketing and communications strategy.


Develop public facing materials to reinforce strategic objective and to strengthen the Society's brand. Act as communication lead for event campaigns, working closely with committee members to meet communication priorities and develop effective integrated communication materials. Adhere to communication timelines, schedules and cost estimates.*
Promote positive public understanding and support for the Society which includes providing timely and effective responses to general enquiries. Create relevant, engaging copy and video content for each social platform, leveraging best practices and technology. Develop content that drives people to take action
Work cross-functionally to ensure that time-sensitive materials are developed, reviewed, and ready for posting so we remain current with daily trends. Curate a social media presence to keep follower engaged and education. Update, optimize and maintain four (4) websites (The Children's Aid Society of Ottawa, Children's Aid Foundation of Ottawa, Foster Parent portal and intranet). Develop and deliver a CASO annual events/campaigns agenda through consultation with internal staff and the Head of Communications, including the crafting of an overarching plan with timelines for each activity, the identification and production of collateral material, and the establishment of an evaluation process to measure outcomes. Support internal clients with communications planning and advice as well as product development. Lead in the production of CASO's monthly internal newsletter and contribute to all other internal communications products as needed through writing, editing, videography and graphic design. Create and maintain all written content for website, social media, emails, advertisement, public service announcements and other communication related activities. Create, edit and post videos for company website, social media channels, etc. Responsible to capture, organize and manipulate digital imagery and videography. Plan and deliver engaging material to meet marketing and communication objectives. Ensure external communications is consistent with CASO's organizational key messages and visual identity guidelines. Collaborate with the Children's Aid Foundation of Ottawa's team to develop and support public relations activities to enhance fund-raising initiatives. Maintain Society publications, displays and promotional items inventory. Plan and coordinate public relations activities including community presentations, special events and speaker's bureau. Develops community partnerships that offer positive media and community relation opportunities for the Society. Provide support and guidance to staff in other departments during campaigns and recognition weeks, including developing a plan and timeline for execution of events and generating internal and external promotional material. Other duties as assigned.

Regular business hours,Monday to Friday; however, the Senior Communications Officer is expected to be available to work irregular hours which may include occasional evenings and weekends in order to meet the objectives of the Society's communication strategy.




What you bring:




University degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, or other relevant field (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Minimum of 2 years' experience working in the communications field. Excellent oral, written and editing skills in French and English, with attention to detail and accuracy. Experience in web metrics, Google analytics and SEO. Understanding of web usability and user experience. Proficiency in Adobe Suite (InDesign, Premier Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop) and/or Canva an asset. Graphic design knowledge and skills and asset. Proficiency in WordPress an asset. Thorough understanding of AODA compliance and other accessibility standards, protocols and best practices. Knowledge and understanding of the culture, history and current oppressions experienced by Indigenous peoples and racialized communities. Knowledge and understanding of the culture, history and current oppressions experienced by people related to gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation faced within the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. Capacity to apply anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-colonialism, anti-heterosexism and anti-cissexism lenses to social problems. Ability to balance multiple priorities and complete deliverables and tactics on time in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
