As an integral member of the Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness team (OHSW), the Disability Claims Management Specialist (DCMS) employs the principles of integrated disability management to all current cases of occupational and non-occupational illnesses or injuries.
The DCMS must comply with the policies and procedures of Hospitals of Ontario Disability Income Plan (HOODIP) and OHSW in determining eligibility of sick benefits.
The primary focus is to ensure a progressive and comprehensive disability management program results in effective early intervention and timely management of cases and safe, effective return-to-work strategies.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skill and Experience)
Degree or Diploma in a field related to Health and Safety or Human Resources;
Certification as a Disability Management Professional/Specialist is preferred;
Minimum of three (3) years' experience in Disability Management (Occupational and Non-Occupational), preferably in a unionized environment;
Solid knowledge and experience implementing the principles of ability/disability management (Occupational and Non-Occupational), attendance support interventions/strategies and group benefits within a unionized environment;
Extensive knowledge and experience in facilitating return to work in temporary and permanent accommodation programs;
Experience with the grievance and arbitration process as it relates to ability case management;
Proficient knowledge of relevant legislation (i.e., Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA), Ontario Human Rights Code (HRC);
Strong knowledge of Accident/Incident Investigation and reporting requirements to the Ministry of Labour and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board;
Experience and passion for knowledge of, and involvement in, organizational wellness initiatives; and,
* Ergonomic assessment experience is preferred.
